A wonderful beach cottage

5 of 5
This cottage is my idea of Barbados perfection -- all the other reviews spell it out beautifully: right on the beach (but with our own fenced lawn and gate to beach), beautiful sea, sand, trees, peace, view. The cottage is clean, simple, spacious -- we spent most of the time sprawling on porch (when not on beach or out-and-about). There were 6 of us (adults) for a family gathering, plus 2 more (and 2 children) staying just 15 min walk down Bay Street and past Brown Sugar (nice for a special night out) at the Hilton. One thing others don't say is that you can walk to/from Bridgetown, a lot of the way along the sea, about 35 mins (or take route bus or taxi). Some of our younger ones explored the local and tourist beach bars down that way. Coffy's restaurant, just opposite driveway to compound, is good for casual Bajan lunch. Big supermarket is a taxi or car drive 20 mins away, but there is a small convenience store just 5 min walk. Landlord is genial and very helpful. We hope to return!

Easy, relaxed stay. Will return someday.

***** Excellent I chose this because my needs were very simple and I was on a budget. This place is exactly as described. In fact, it is even more pretty - the garden is breath taking. I can confirm that you have access to a beautiful beach that is not at all crowded. The lovely owner, Barbara, lives in the larger part of the house and you have your own keys to your separate studio to come and go as you please. It's a simple lodging with everything you need, plus beauty and relaxation. And wifi! They kept an eye out for me (single women who travel alone will get attention at the beach) which I feel was both kind and friendly since I was the stranger. Also, since I was travelling over Easter and grocers were closed - they made sure I was set for food. It's a very easy space to be in. You wake up early to the sounds of surf, birds in the garden, and an extremely friendly puppy (Barbados wakes up with the sunrise!) and you go to bed to sounds of surf and wind. When I arrived I was offered a cool drink while the studio was being spruced up. And they arranged for transport to & from a grocery on my first night so that I could pick up my own foodstuffs. There is instant coffee and tea already provided. I would take precautions for mosquitos - and you may find there is some repellent and anti-itch product available in the apartment. I got bitten while I slept, but, I didn't let this affect my mood in this beautiful environment. Thank you to Orissa at Rex Realty, And the Taxi Driver, David: When I landed in Barbados, the Airport ATM ("ABM" or "Cash-Point") swallowed my debit card and I was unable to access a bank - they close at 3pm. Rex Realty, who had arranged for my transport from the airport to Sunset Annex allowed me pay for the taxi later - through Rex Realty - since I had no cash on hand. Then next day I was able to procure a rental car of my own (highly recommend for exploring on your own - Insist on a GPS!) and sort out my finances. I should have brought traveller's cheques!
