Pleasant Payne's Bay Beach Bargain

4 of 5
THIS IS A lovely little villa right on Payne’s Bay Beach. The living room décor is very tasteful and attractive. Being right on the beach is also great, with lounge chairs and umbrella provided. Especially enjoyable was the porch facing the beach where we ate and had drinks daily; basically there’s no wall between the porch and the living room. The bedrooms are equipped with air conditioners for comfort in sleeping. The beds also have netting if you prefer natural air. It is an open air living space, the windows only having louvered shutters. But bugs usually don’t fly in, it’s amazing. There are locks on the outside doors, garden door and parking gate, and a locking grille over the French doors. Use them. THE BATHROOMS had some corrosion on the fixtures, I’m sure from the water, but all the plumbing worked fine. The owner said he was working on improving the baths. The kitchen has a gas stove and various countertop appliances. A variety of spices were provided for cooking too. WE PAID about $30 for our week’s electricity usage by running the AC only when sleeping. Breezes were generally very pleasant throughout the apt. DO NOT RENT a large vehicle if you stay here. We had a compact and were barely able to get the car in and out of the very narrow driveway and parking space. The buses run regularly but we imagine it could take a long time to get places on them, especially if you want to go sightseeing in the interior of the island as we did. Don’t forget they drive on the LEFT! A SUPERB oceanfront restaurant, Daphne’s, is less than 10 minutes away on foot. We highly recommend it. The west coast area is filled with restaurants, and there is a grocery store a five-minute drive away in Holetown. The Mahi Mahi is between a public access walkway to the beach and a business hawking their beach options—jet skis, boat rides, lounge chairs, etc.; many of their chairs and dinghies were in front of the Mahi Mahi fence. Men sit around there not doing much and wait for business, talking and playing board games in the meantime. Barbadians are generally loud and the area is congested, so beware the noise level, which is high throughout the daylight hours. THE OWNER Manfred was very responsive and easy to work with. We found the Mahi Mahi to be a good value for that area of Barbados, which is full of high-end hotels and fancy restaurants, so go and enjoy it!

Great Place to Stay

5 of 5
Left Villa Riana at the end of January after spending the month of January staying in the two bedroomed unit overlooking the pool. Had a great time. The location is very good, with easy walking to the shops, the small beach and the bus route. Johnathon, the manager, was very helpful on our arrival and Rick, the owner, was also helpful when he arrived. Cleaning and linen changes were done on a regular basis(Thank you,Elsa). We rented a car for a portion of our time and also used the local transport (ZRs). Other guests used Rick's taxi service and he was also helpful in arranging excursions. We enjoyed the fish fry in Oistens several times (recommend Uncle Georges) which is only a few minutes walk past the supermarket. Massey supermarket has a free shopper's shuttle to take you and your groceries home which we used when we did not have a car. Also recommend Surfer's Cafe which is on the opposite side of the main road just before the supermarket, great lattes and reasonable prices. Overall very happy with our choice and would definitely stay there again. Had a great holiday on Barbados.

Stunning villa in paradise

5 of 5
Wow was the only word I used when I walked in to this stunning villa. Pictures do not do it justice at all. Couldn't have asked for more, great communication on booking and Desree and Alicia were so helpful and an asset to this villa. Hopefully be back soon as I miss the monkeys paying us a visit in the morning. Stopforth family
