Beautiful views

4 of 5
Villa is pretty easy to find and only 15 mins from the airport. Lovely to be welcomed to the house by John. Who showed us everything and where to find places round the island. The view was the best thing about staying here. To wake up each morning and see the ocean was pretty special. The wind coming off the ocean was extremely welcoming and it saved on putting the air con on! Bottom bay, which is 2-3min walk away is beautiful and hardly anyone was on it. But only suitable to paddle. Initially we thought we were pretty remote but we actually appreciated the quietness of it all and how safe we felt (friends were shocked we sat with the front door open in the evening!) plus everything only takes 20-30 mins to get to, six roads roundabout was so helpful and led us to the places we wanted to get to. There is a supermarket there but shop savvy, some things are reasonable and some things are very expensive as obviously having to import things. During our stay we were lucky to be there for the Kadooment crop over carnival. Was a great experience. We visited Oistins fish fry evening, queue for the food rather than sit down and be served, we made that mistake and waited forever for our food! A visit to The Crane is a must, beautiful beach and the hotel is lovely too. The service at the Italian restaurant was brilliant. We also ate at Tapas in Hastings, which was very delicious and reasonably priced. Lovely to eat by the beach too. Also recommend Elegance catamaran cruises. They only have 14 guests on board and good sized boat. They were extremely attentive and were so good with our 6 year old. Head off to the west for the best beaches. We only had time to visit a few but Paynes beach and Mullins were very nice. What is great about Barbados is that it's not over commercialised and trying to appeal to westerners. It is what it is. Felt very relaxed and very safe and people are always willing to help. I would recommend this villa if you want to get away from it all and want breathtaking views. It felt like paradise with the coconut trees in the garden. The pool was great to have and got our son swimming properly. We got used to the bugs and the visitors in the pool including crabs and a frog! The villa is well equipped and has everything you need. Wendy was really helpful and answered any strange questions we had! Plus we knew that John was only at the end of the phone or end of the road if we needed anything. Thanks for allowing us to stay.

Excellent Choice

5 of 5
My wife and I stayed at Villa Maria for the month of February (2014). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and found that Villa Maria was a clean, friendly and well-run establishment. While we had booked the cottage for our stay, Rick (the owner) upgraded us for free to the one bedroom unit for the first ten days as it wasn't rented. Rick usually lives on the property but had rented his unit for part of our stay. He was at the Villa more than once a day, so he was easily available (and we had his cell number). When Rick wasn't available, Jonathan (the property manager) and his girlfriend were just a phone call away and addressed issues promptly. Our "big" issue was the lack of a can opener in the cottage - and one was delivered quickly. The Villa is located in a quiet subdivision and as noted by others is close to Oistins and fairly close to St. Lawrence gap, to which we usually walked one way and rode the "ZR" home. We felt completely safe walking the streets day or night and met only one pan handler - who was very polite - during our stay. Do not miss the Friday fish fry & party at Oistins. Chillin' and Grillin' became our favorite restaurant. The one bedroom unit at Villa Maria is spacious, well-equipped and relaxing. It has a front porch which we used often, especially for happy hour. The cottage is smaller with the main seating area being a love seat. There is an outdoor seating area, but it is in the flow of warm air from the Villa's air conditioning. and the view is of the back wall of the villa. This didn't pose a problem as we carried our coffee (mornings) or drinks (happy hour) to the pool where there is plenty of seating and a nice view. The cottage too is well-equipped and we really enjoyed our stay there. All in all, Villa Maria was a great choice as a place to stay and Barbados - especially the people - was a real treat. Thanks to Rick, Jonathan and all the "hired help" for making our stay so enjoyable.

Excellent accommodation and excellent location!

5 of 5
I stayed here for 8 nights with my wife and 10-month-old daughter. We absolutely loved everything about our stay. I would recommend this villa to couples and small families with kids/babies, or a group of friends (basically anyone!). I would even buy one of these for myself and live there! We were very impressed with our stay. The property was as described in the posting in terms of amenities, layout, and location. It is away from the main highway and therefore quiet, which we prefer. We also felt very safe as there is an alarm system for the villa and a security gate for the property, although the area and Barbados in general are safe anyway. The villa is a five minute walk to a beautiful section of beach and close to a couple good restaurants. It’s only a short drive into town. Both bedrooms are big and each ensuite bathroom is clean and modern. The third bathroom is a great bonus. The kitchen is a good size and has a full complement of dishes, utensils, and appliances (minus a dishwasher which would have been nice, although there is a large double sink). The living room area had lots of space for our baby daughter to crawl around. There is AC in every room but we didn’t use it because we had both sets of double doors open all the time to let the breeze in. Another great feature about this place is the wrap-around patio where the dining area is. Great for eating and just hanging out. This villa is nice and close to the pool, whereas some of the neighbouring villas are set back. The neighbouring villas were occupied during our stay but the grounds were always very quiet and the common areas were never busy, although neighbours were around if you wanted to socialize. We had an excellent experience setting up the rental with the owner, Allison. She always answered our emails and phone calls quickly and was happy to give us tips to plan our time on the island. The property manager, Jeanine, was also a huge help. She coordinated everything for our stay ahead of time including our rental car (incl airport pick-up and drop-off), rental baby crib and high chair (delivered to the villa before we arrived), and stocking the kitchen with the groceries we requested. When we arrived, Jeanine helped us get settled and oriented. Jeanine made everything easy for us. We were very impressed with the villa and level of support we got from the owner and property manager. I would recommend this villa to my friends.
