Hello South Caribbe travellers,
We stayed at the IXORA condo in Holetown (Jamestown Park) for 5 days after Xmas and spent our New Years Eve there, I would highly recommend it for those who prefer a relaxing stay in a quiet neighborhood. It is a 5 min walk to the grocery store, fine shopping, fine dining and, of course the beach. Plenty of tiki bars, pubs and restaurants nearby.
The condo has everything you need in the way of amenities and is probably one of the better placed units in this building of ten. Clean and well maintained, it is good value and imo a better choice to stay at rather than a resort. We met many of the other guests during our stay at IXORA (usually poolside) and it was a nice experience trading stories, etc while enjoying a beverage.
During your stay, definitely take a tour north through Speightstown area, onwards to Animal Flowers cave (northern tip of Barbados), take the East Coast tour to Cattlewash and Bathsheba. The million dollar view at Cherry Tree Hill is breathtaking and has to be experienced! Visit St. Nicholas Abbey for sure and enjoy the rural areas of Barbados. Myself, if I could own a property in Barbados, I would definitely consider the East Coast. Much different than the hustle & bustle of the south and west coasts (to each their own). This is a surfers paradise but not one for swimmers due to the heavy surf and rip tides. Tours are not cheap (come to think of it, nothing is) but you can negotiate. Currency 2 Barbados dollars = 1 US dollar. You can use either.
In the Holetown area, we went to dinner at the world famous Sandy Lane resort one evening (ridiculously pricey) but if you want high end dining, enjoy celebrity gawking and have deep pockets, go for the experience. We saw Simon Cowell and Petula Clark the night we went. One can walk the beach from Jamestown Park area all the way to Sandy Lane (and beyond). I recommend going to nearby Folkestone Park and then walk the beach southwards. If you require a beverage enroute, plenty of choices you will find (or better yet, bring your own in a cooler bag). Plenty of great swim spots on your trek as well.
Overall, do yourself a favor and try the condo experience whilst in Barbados, and IXORA will meet your every need. Try out the local Bajan food as well. If you choose to stay here, reserve ahead of time as it's rightly so becoming very popular with returnees leading the way. We hope to do so again in the future.
