We loved our 3 night stay at Casita Barranca - house is even lovelier than the pictures online. 2 couples ,1 single shared this beautifully decorated beach-view home for long weekend & wedding in the wine country. Filled with amazing art tile, interesting books & art, wonderful history & comfy furniture. All 5 of us commented on the really good mattresses :) Amelia provides clear driving directions from the border and a key in an easy-to-find lock-box.
Owners live in top house, so are available if you have any problems. 5 minutes from either La Fonda (great restaurant & a spa) or the little town of La Mission. Well-located at the intersection of the back road up to Valle de Guadalupe (and currently – as of 10/2014 – the only road through to Ensenada – until they rebuild the beach road from the last landslide!)
House comes equipped with:
1 large bedroom ensuite - lots of closet space & King sized bed
2 smaller bedrooms (1 queen, 1 full) share a full bath off living area
Baths have toilet, sink & shower (no tub), lovely Mexican art-tile, mirrors, hairdryer
Plenty of hot water, clean towels and linens, beach towels
Ceiling fans & bedside lights in all bedrooms
All tiled floors throughout with lovely occasional rugs (no icky carpeting :) )
Large flat-screen TV & videos ,music system, Internet
Big comfy sofas, plenty seating for six
Unobstructed ocean-views from living, kitchen, dining
Large beach-facing terrace with great outdoor seating
Direct beach access, lower terraces with hammock, fire pit, beach chairs, umbrella etc.
Excellent Security – 24 hr manned gate & alarm system.
Kitchen is fully equipped (waaaay better than average) w/:
Coffeemaker, teakettle, cappuccino machine, fridge/freezer
Decent knives, cutting bds, gas stove w/ oven, microwave
All pots/pans/dishes/silverware/glasses you could possibly need
- Lots of beautiful stone steps to get down to house & beach– not for those with bad knees or mobility disabilities.
- House looked kid-safe, but terraces/steps steep & railings unsafe for toddlers.
-In Baja almost all homes have delicate plumbing on septic systems - use minimal paper, hold down the flusher to flush completely, and be prepared to use a plunger occasionally!
-Don’t leave food or trash out , ants are easily attracted in this part of the world. (we saw only ants, NO other icky bugs – I’m super-cockroach-phobic (saw them in other Mexico rentals), so happy to report this one roach-free!)
