Petit coin de paradis

5 of 5

Naturalist play ground.

My wife and I are naturalists. We have traveled throughout the world for research as well as vacation. Many places are ruined by over crowding and pollution-- Gone shelling is a unspoiled natural beauty. Eleuthera is freedom and Gone shelling was the perfect get away. My wife would point out cruise ships in the dead of night passing by. The star gazing was incredible. We enjoy an active lifestyle so the kayaks and canoe was great to explore other beaches, the cut and half sound. Everyday I would walk the beach seeing box fish and sting rays. Amazing pin cushion star fish community right in front of the house! My wife loved being able to run on the beach and the sand is pink/cream color. You can walk to a cay and explore many beaches and rock formations. Snorkeling through the cut and going out past the protected bay we snorkeled at each end at large reefs north and south of the property. The reefs are in good shape and have not been destroyed like other tourist traps. We saw a pair of eagle rays. Returning after our adventures we would wash our gear at the foot bath and I loved taking a shower outside at night or during the day. (We felt like we had the entire beach to ourselves). The home was clean and very comfortable. I got the best sleep. The house is well ventilated and we were able to have a nice cross breeze. The ceiling fans were a plus for an afternoon siesta. There is ac in both bedrooms but we never used them. To be awoken by amazing sunrises every morning right from our bed. When the wind would die down we would eat on the screened in porch. My wife thought the house was tastefully decorated. I appreciated all the local art through out the house. We never used the satellite tv and the owners had offered to remove it if we wanted. We don't have kids so we said to just leave it but my wife was happy that his distraction could be eliminated. Your in paradise...way to much to see and explore. The bay is protected by reefs so there is flats and shallows for fishing and those who aren't great swimmers or have little ones. If you are looking for a tourist trap destination spoiled by pollution and tourists Eleuthera wouldn't be your thing. If you want an adventure in nature and tropical delights I would highly recommend gone shelling as your home base for an amazing vacation.

Family found paradise on Winding Bay

5 of 5
Our family had the most amazing week long stay at High Tide on Winding Bay in Eleuthera. The property is definitely as described except even better! Every day we've been back I've longed to be back at High Tide... We had 3 families which included 8 kids, ages 4 to 12 stay at this property over spring break. The home was super clean, updated and had every amenity you could think of for a more than comfortable stay. Most stellar feature? Every room in this home has a view of the magnificent Winding Bay and its incredible turquoise waters. Access to the softest pink sandy beach was only steps from the back porch where you could dip your toes in or just relax in the shade under the palapa. Almost daily, we walked the length of the beach and back (approx. 2-miles round trip) for some exercise. The kids spent the day playing on the beach, swimming, digging holes or exploring the nearby "cut" to the mangroves during low tide. Nearby, we found the Ocean Hole to be a really fun outing and chance to swim with some beautiful fish. There was no shortage of things to do and explore in the most amazing setting. One of the best features about this beach? No waves. Winding Bay is beautifully protected by the outer reef and its clear waters made it ideal for swimming. As a parent, you can sit back and relax as the kids play in the water. This 3-BR home has one of the best layouts I've ever seen for a vacation property. The large great room where we ate great meals, hung out in and played games has a fully equipped kitchen right off of it. On both sides of this great room are two very large bedrooms with full bathrooms. A third equally large bedroom and bath are on the side. Columbus and Lilly, High Tide's caretakers are amazing and provided everything we needed for this trip. And if we needed something ourselves, the convenient proximity to Tarpum Bay and Rock Sound made it easy to pick up fresh fish from the dock or shop for groceries. Everyone should experience a little slice of paradise. For me, it doesn't get better than this. Having been to several Caribbean islands including: Nassau, Barbados, St. Lucia, Montserrat, Dominican Republic, Turks and Caicos, St. Thomas and Bermuda, I can honestly say, that my visit to Winding Bay on Eleuthera is my all-time favorite. We can't wait to go back.
