WONDERFUL AND AFFORDABLE NEW APARTMENT

5 of 5
This quaint 2 bedroom brand new apartment is located on a hill top with a beautiful view of the Caribbean side of Russell Island and Spanish Wells. The interior amenities are like being at home. All your cooking needs are provided including a bar-b-q. If you arrive on Sunday there will be no grocery stores open, so figure on dining out. No need for air conditioning as the prevailing winds will keep you cool at night. Also no need for a vehicle or golf cart as the 2 cruiser bikes will get you everywhere on the islands and keep you in shape. This was our 3 trip to Eleuthera and the best so far. If you just want a great small island with everything you need within walking distance including safe beaches, snorkeling, this is your place. Restaurants run from the mid twenties to smaller cafes around ten dollars for dinner. lunch and breakfast around seven. Your hosts, Gordon and Theresia are very responsive, making sure your visit is very enjoyable and meeting all your needs. Being natives of Spanish Wells we found them to be a great asset on making recommendations and connecting with the Island's resources. Our only problem after being there for 6 weeks was the small biting flies mostly on Russell Island beaches late in the day, not so much on Spanish Wells and then having to leave. So bring lots of bug repellant and stay a while.

Great Stay

5 of 5
Five of us made the trip to Spanish Wells for a two week stay over New Years. We stayed at the Calypso Cottage and it was perfect for us. It is spacious and well kept. It had everything we needed. It has a great view of the harbor and is a short walk to the beach. Lorraine was a wonderful host. The day we arrived was a holiday and all the stores were closed. Lorraine arranged to have some groceries at the house for us. We rented a golf cart for the week, which made getting around the island easy. We also rented a boat for one week. Brent showed us how to use it and gave us tips on where to go. We took it fishing and had several dinners with our catch. Also, Brian was always helping, whether it was where to rent fishing poles (island tackle) or where the fireworks would be (right out front of the cottage). Also, the town was great. Everyone is so nice. Our daughter participated in the games and races for kids at the ball fields. She met several kids and had a blast. We can't wait to go back.

Awesome Family Spring Break!

5 of 5
We just wanted to thank our wonderful hosts for a great week at By the Seashore! This is the first time that we have been to Spanish Wells. We have stayed on many islands in The Bahamas before including nearby mainland Eleuthera. This was the best yet. We feel that we should have found Spanish Wells sooner. By the Seashore is a very charming colorful island cottage with lots of character. When we first arrived, we first saw all the many bright colors of bougainvillea in full bloom all around the garden as well as large papaya trees full of fruit! BEAUTIFUL! We followed Capt. Smiley into the cottage, and noticed that all doors and were unlocked and open. We found it refreshingly odd that he didn't need to use any keys to let us inside the cottage! How many places in the world do people still leave all doors and windows open? The cottage is very well equipped, there are amazing water views from just about every door and window, and the sea breezes just flow through. The front porch has nice ocean views, the back porch has views down to the dock and harbour, and the top deck offers amazing 360 degree views all around the island, harbour, ocean and bay! The boat that is offered free of charge with the rental of this cottage is a huge plus for our family. The least expensive boat rental on the islands is $100/day! My husband likes to fly fish. He wasn't disappointed and caught many bonefish on this vacation. He would take the boat out early and by mid-morning the kids and I were ready to join him. We visited beautiful deserted beaches, coves, islands, and reefs by boat. The snorkeling is fantastic in this area. When feeling energetic, we cycled around Spanish Wells and Russell Island with the bicycles provided, or would take the ocean kayak out for a paddle. We could have walked or cycled to stores and restaurants, but we decided to rent a golf cart to zip around (especially when were feeling lazy --- we are on vacation after all.) Lorraine had golf cart rentals available nearby at the best prices in town. The Spanish Wells locals are exceptionally friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the many restaurants of Spanish Wells and Papa Scoops for fresh homemade ice cream each evening. The grocery store is Spanishis the largest that we have seen in any of the out islands that we have visited in The Bahamas with pretty good prices for The Bahamas. We have already reserved two weeks at By the Seashore for our summer vacation, so, yes, we will be back!
