Wonderful week at Conch Shell Villa!

5 of 5
We had a lovely week at Conch Shell Beach Villa! This was our first visit to the Bahamas island of Spanish Wells. We try to avoid the "hotel scene" as much as possible, and the reason is because there are places like this one to rent. First of all, the property is absolutely beautiful with lovely trees and flowers, all beautifully maintained-- so relaxing to be in such beautiful surroundings! We took full advantage of all the amenities. The bicycles were great to have and we used them to get our morning exercise by cruising around the island. We did lots of exploring with the boat and found an awesome swimming/snorkeling cove about a mile past Ridley's Head. Brent was so nice to us and even took the time to take us on a short boat ride so we could get familiar with the boat. We spent a lot of time enjoying the lovely white sand beach -- great for adults but also perfect for anyone that has little kids! I think we only counted about 10 people on the beach the entire week! The golf cart (optional/extra charge) was so convenient and a fun alternative to a full size car (which would have been overkill for an island this small!)-- great to have to head down to the Shipyard for dinner (great drinks and seafood!). Also, Budda's Snack Shack is a "do not miss"--- doesn't look like much, but they have great food and Budda comes around to each table to introduce himself (AND they have a resident parrot!). Have to also thank Lorraine for arranging all of our land/water taxi transfers to get to and depart from the island which all went off smoothly with no problems! A word of advice to anyone coming to Spanish Wells-- don't use the tap water to make coffee (tap water is salty!)-- get bottled water at the grocery store. Also, given that this is a small island and grocery selection is limited, I recommend bringing any items you can in your suitcase (we did this and it helped to eliminate some of the sticker shock at the grocery!). We are looking forward to a return visit to the Bahamas sometime in the future. THANK YOU, Lorraine and Brent!

Our stay at Sunnyside was the vacation of a lifetime. Spanish Wells was the ideal location for a true getaway, with a beautiful house, beachfront location, peace and quiet, and a lovely island with wonderful people. We enjoyed our trip with Captain Smiley, which was a wonderful tour and intro-snorkel for the kids. We saw leopard rays, fish, and other fascinating underwater life. The bicycles and kayaks were a great bonus and we enjoyed them almost every day. We were able to take hours- long walks and able to bike to the far end of Russell Island without threat of being run over, a novelty for us city folk! A real treat. We had looked forward to this vacation, but it really exceeded our expectations, which was really just an escape from all that is American east-coast busy-ness. This fit the bill and we cannot wait to return. I could drone on and on, but sha'nt. It was just that good.

Family found paradise on Winding Bay

5 of 5
Our family had the most amazing week long stay at High Tide on Winding Bay in Eleuthera. The property is definitely as described except even better! Every day we've been back I've longed to be back at High Tide... We had 3 families which included 8 kids, ages 4 to 12 stay at this property over spring break. The home was super clean, updated and had every amenity you could think of for a more than comfortable stay. Most stellar feature? Every room in this home has a view of the magnificent Winding Bay and its incredible turquoise waters. Access to the softest pink sandy beach was only steps from the back porch where you could dip your toes in or just relax in the shade under the palapa. Almost daily, we walked the length of the beach and back (approx. 2-miles round trip) for some exercise. The kids spent the day playing on the beach, swimming, digging holes or exploring the nearby "cut" to the mangroves during low tide. Nearby, we found the Ocean Hole to be a really fun outing and chance to swim with some beautiful fish. There was no shortage of things to do and explore in the most amazing setting. One of the best features about this beach? No waves. Winding Bay is beautifully protected by the outer reef and its clear waters made it ideal for swimming. As a parent, you can sit back and relax as the kids play in the water. This 3-BR home has one of the best layouts I've ever seen for a vacation property. The large great room where we ate great meals, hung out in and played games has a fully equipped kitchen right off of it. On both sides of this great room are two very large bedrooms with full bathrooms. A third equally large bedroom and bath are on the side. Columbus and Lilly, High Tide's caretakers are amazing and provided everything we needed for this trip. And if we needed something ourselves, the convenient proximity to Tarpum Bay and Rock Sound made it easy to pick up fresh fish from the dock or shop for groceries. Everyone should experience a little slice of paradise. For me, it doesn't get better than this. Having been to several Caribbean islands including: Nassau, Barbados, St. Lucia, Montserrat, Dominican Republic, Turks and Caicos, St. Thomas and Bermuda, I can honestly say, that my visit to Winding Bay on Eleuthera is my all-time favorite. We can't wait to go back.
