Relaxed coastal elegance

5 of 5
Tucked away on a quiet, one-lane road in South Palmetto Point, the Laguna is a peaceful dream of a vacation home. We are so grateful that we could share the laidback joys of the Bahamian lifestyle from a luxurious base. From a full rack of spices to salad spinner, the kitchen was well stocked and left nothing to miss. A Bahamian welcome dinner got us right into vacation mood. Cozy linens and fluffy bath towels felt just like home, but better because of the incredible views. A great snorkeling area is right behind the house and all the beach toys you might need – from well-maintained snorkeling gear to boogie boards and even two double kayaks – ensure you won’t be bored. Our kids didn’t turn on the TV (or play console) once. The location in the center of Eleuthera makes exploring the many beaches easily accessible and the owners have plenty of great suggestions. In our rental Jeep, we ventured to the most southern point Lighthouse Beach, and north to the Glass Window Bridge where a dark blue Atlantic is separated from a light turquoise Caribbean Sea only by a sliver of land not wider than a bridge. But, we realized that Club Med Beach, just 10 minutes away from the house, is just as gorgeous as Harbour Island’s pink beaches minus the crowds. Just a couple miles from the house is Island Farm, a local farm where you can buy fresh greens, tomatoes, peppers, root veggies and some other supplies, including delicious home-made sauces and dips. Fresh breads and the cinnamon rolls on Tuesdays and Fridays are finger-licking good (make sure you get there before 10am or they sell out). For a treat, we ate at nearby Tippy’s, a beachfront restaurant with life music two nights a week (try their garlic shrimp but make reservations!!!). We bought fresh Tuna off the dock in Governor’s Harbor and BBQed it on our deck. On Friday night, we went to a Fish Fry and mingled with locals and visitors, exchanging travel stories and enjoying local delights. Stephanie and Kevin Blankenship are gracious hosts who responded to our emails prompty and kindly. Their property manager warmly welcomed us like we are family friends and showed us the property. The house looks like new. The spectacular infinity pool was just finished last year and is the perfect temperature. BTW, so is the ocean. Really the only drawback was that we had to leave. I wholeheartedly recommend visiting the Laguna. Unless you like crowds, noise and overpriced food, skip Nassau and add a couple days to Eleuthera.

Great family get-away

5 of 5
This is a very comfortable house- it had everything we needed for our extended family and then some! Central A/C, backup generator, blender! The 3 kayaks were in good order and were perfect for paddling on the calm Caribbean side waters. We were able to paddle along the coast and out to the nearby cays to fish and snorkel. We caught our fish for dinner every night! Then we cooked with the patio grill or smoked the fish on the outdoor fire pit on the beach. The water is warm and calm enough on this beach for the 6 year old in our party to safely enjoy snorkeling too. Indoor and outdoor speakers were appreciated. We usually like to explore other beaches during our stay- but we never felt like leaving this place! Great views from inside too!

Clean, big, perfect location on the caribbean

5 of 5
My husband & I stayed here for 5 days, it was very clean, it has everything you might need to have a enjoyable vacation, and to top it off it's in a perfect location on the caribbean ocean side where you can see clearly to the bottom and enjoy the ocean just steps outside the door! The owner is very kind, and helpful, they can answer any questions you might have in regard to the island. You can get in a car, and drive South or North a little way's to see some additional beaches besides the one right out side your door (but you could stay there the entire time and love it all the same) or go all the way to the North or South end of the island from this vacation spot and be at either end in a short amount ot time. This Web page doesn't show all the reviews left by guest, but TRUST ME... In each of the 3 rooms they have guest books that are filled with A+ reviews, rating this place with a high "10"!!! There was NOT even one bad review in the entire book that was in the room we stayed "The Mermaid" at "The barefoot Beachouse". We didn't get to meet Sharon, but we did meet and talked to Skip while we were there, and he was a wonderful host! Just a couple tips, I suggest is to bring meat, vegetables, and anything else that you might like to eat while your there other then fish which you can get at Governor's Harbour dock daily around 3pm to 4pm. You can get some great tasting fresh fish and you can also get a lot of conch at a reasonable price compared going out to dinner at any of the restaurant's on the island. I'd also say bring any spices, BBQ sauce, butter, and other condiments you use while cooking...packages of tuna fish for lunches, and lunch meat I'd suggest as well. The grocery stores are very limited to what you can purchase once your there. The airlines do allow coolers, we went over with one as a carry on, with no problems at all. A bigger cooler may have to be checked in if it doesn't fit in the over-head area... but that's not a problem either. This vacation rental has kayaks, glass bottom canoe, a double Kayak, a little sail boat, rafts, noodles, masks & snorkels, lounge charis on the beach, pretty much everything you might want other then fins for snorkeling. Don't be fooled by some of the vacation rentals listed on differant web pages, this place is what it states and more... We saw a couple others that we were checking into before we found this place while we were there and they are NOT all what they advertise at all.
