An Actual Getaway - It was Perfect!

                    5 of 5
Before I get into the actual property I think I need to start by setting expectations of Long Island. There are some very helpful articles and reviews on tripadvisor that describe Long Island that I think everyone should read before heading down. Long Island is not the land of luxury. if you are looking for resorts and all inclusive you will not find it here. In my case it was exactly what I was looking for. Long Island is a place where you can do the exploring on your own (and free) but also feel safe (Long Island has a very low crime rate). I planned some basic beaches and destinations that I wanted to see based on comments and input from others and none of them disappointed. I snorkeled in a handful of locations including the bay that the Passionate Pelican is located on. I am not a very experienced snorkeler and all locations were easy swimming and I had the opportunity to see some interesting things. We had the chance to interact with some of the full time residents and get a feel for what life is actually like there. To truly make the most of your time I recommend a car for the entire stay. there are a handful of rental agencies mostly offering late model sedans and SUVS. Get the SUV as many of the roads and paths are rocky and sandy. If you are up for some do it yourself fun and adventure this is a perfect destination. The Passionate Pelican itself could not be in a more beautiful location. The pictures on this site do not really do it justice. The water at lochabar is full of blues and greens and the property itself is a pristine garden. Within the first day my wife and I were already saying we would come back. That is saying a lot as we vowed when we got married that we would vacation some place new every year. The property was clean and appropriate with everything in the kitchen you would need to prepare any meal. Having wifi to face time with our 7 month old daughter made our first trip away manageable. The outdoor shower was amazing with a clear view of the water. The best feature however is the deck of the living space that opens up to the breathtaking scenery. The location makes sense too as it is within a couple miles of the capital of the island Clarence town. There is a marina with a couple of restaurants if you choose to eat a meal out. I will be posting a few of my favorite pictures to facebook and tagging the Pelican facebook page if anyone cares to see some more pictures. This place is true beauty!

                    Wonderful!

                    5 of 5
We sat on the porch, stared at the ocean and congratulated ourselves on such good luck. We had expected a lot, because the cottage was recommended by friends, but this was just heaven. A perfect duplex cottage, right on the beach, within walking distance of a small store, a vegetable market, a marina restaurant for a Bahamian lunch and a laundry—and a nearby a scuba hermit to take you diving at the blue hole and later the crystal clear reefs. Carlos and Sarah pay a lot of attention to the comfort of their guests—a pick up and drop off at the airport, grocery shopping along the way, and a little tour of the town. There are tons of towels, fresh crisp sheets and wonderfully firm beds to sleep in to the sound of the ocean just outside your window. What a delightful week we had—and you can be very sure we will be back!
