Paradise Island

5 of 5
Words truly cannot begin to describe this wonderful paradise. Our stay here was amazing. The views are incredible over the bay. The hospitality and friendliness of the owners, Phil and Debbie, and all the islanders we met were second to none. It was fantastic being able to jump from the dock into the water and wade around. But you have to literally look before you leap. We saw sharks, barracuda, turtles, dolphins, stingrays and a manatee right from our perch overlooking the water. It was amazing! At times, we were afraid to nap because we didn't want to miss a moment. The cottage is very private but surprisingly close to everything you would need - groceries, restaurants, liquor store, etc. We have stayed in numerous places throughout the Out Islands and would have to say this cottage is one of the very best. Beautifully decorated, with great little touches that made the stay comfortable and serene. Imagine having a wonderful dinner overlooking the turquoise water, cocktails on the deck while the sun sinks in the west and dolphins skip through the waves. This is what we experienced and have missed every single day since we left. We ate at a few great restaurants on the island as well. Chez Pierre's is a must as well as Seaside Village, Stella Maris and the outdoor grill at the Clarence Town marina. We discovered some great secluded private beaches, but were a little underwhelmed with the Blue Hole. There was quite a bit of garbage in the water that had been brought in by the current from the Atlantic, and we couldn't imagine snorkelling around in that. Perhaps if the current was different, it would have been better. But we liked just discovering our own quiet little stretches of beach. In a nutshell, this is one of the most outstanding sun holidays we have had and are already counting the days until our return.

Great beaches and great host

5 of 5
My wife and I spent a week in late Februray at this very comfortable beach cottage. Couldn't have been a better week of weather and beach. The owner, George, helped us with our travel plans and checked on us frequently at the cottage to offer assistance with directions, local stores, etc. We rented a car and traveled to the fantastic beach in the north, Santa Maria, to the beatiful Gordon Beach in the south as well as many beaches in between. White sugar sands and turquoise water. At most we would see a couple of others on the beach, but often had the entire beach to ourselves. Must see: Blue Hole. Note: Side roads are quite rough. On a return vist we would rent an SUV or high clearance vehicle.

Excellent Experience, Beginning to End

5 of 5
Our family of four had an exceptional experience with George and Cindy and their home on the bay at Wymms. Ordinarily, you would not select a vacation house to rent based on its owners. But in this case, you should. We were first time travelers to Long Island with our two boys, aged 14 and 17. Our family has traveled to many places in different parts of the world and water based trips remain the long time favorites. We cannot say enough good things about our seven days in Long Island, snorkeling, bone fishing, reef fishing and just generally wandering to the wide open expanses of blue water. What made it special was George and Cindy’s house. We stayed in the four bedroom house and it was clean from top to bottom and very functional. Great kitchen and being able to eat every night on the screened porch was very enjoyable for our family. If you are into stars at night, this is the place. We woke up every morning to a great sky and a higher degree of quiet that you cannot get at home. A few steps away from the house is a relatively secluded beach that wraps around a gorgeous bay. You can walk the whole bay tip to tip and watch the waves come in. Several nights we ate fresh fish and lobster from a local market and two nights we ate fish that we caught with our boys. Water to table is a quick trip in Long Island.During our stay, we rented a car with the great help of George. It allowed us to explore road after road, countless beaches and some great roadside restaurants where the locals eat. George provided us with lists of snorkeling spots, restaurants and fishing locations. We packed the car with fishing gear, snorkeling equipment and just set out for the day. Unlike a lot of houses that we have rented, George enjoys getting to know the people that visit and will do whatever he can to ensure that you are able find the things that make you happy on Long Island. On two different occasions, I mentioned to him that our boys wanted to fish the reef and do some exploring. A few hours later George called and had found a great day trip for us to do some fishing off shore and snorkeling. If he offers, take George up on getting your first night’s provisions. When we arrived, we had dinner and a fresh cold beer waiting for us in the fridge. There is plenty of good fishing all around Long Island. It is a mystifying place to visit. We traveled the whole island, but did not see any places we would trade for this one. Jim and Elizabeth
