Lovely home, stunning beaches

5 of 5
My best friends and I have been doing an annual Bahamas trip for many years. We adore the Exuams and have been to Cat Island and San Salvador. Long Island and Loachabar House exceeded our expectations and is now tied for first with our favorite places in the Bahamas. The house is SO comfortable, inside and out. The sun deck and it's view are amazing; the lanai porch is great for cooking out or when you want to be outside but have had your days worth of sunshine. The kitchen is well equipped and great for cooking. In comparision to the smaller islands we have traveled to, the stores near the house are well stocked and the prices fairly reasonable. The food boat comes on Weds afternoon so if you hit the stores Weds before close or Thursday morning you will be able to get plenty fresh veggies. We were impressed. We bought fresh fish every other day. The beach in front of the house is AMAZING. We did encounter about 4 days of very windy weather followed by a straight up rainy day but even on the bad days the house and covered porch are so comfortable, we were content and relaxed. The days of sun and no wind, which were continuous after the first 5 of our trip 14 day stay, were paradise . We sea kayaked to the cays across the way. We saw sea turtles and rays EVERY DAY, making their afternoon journey to somewhere. They are shy but beautiful. There is not much as far as snorkeling in front of the house but further up the road in Morrisville there is some beautiful live coral and a ship wreck and we saw tons of amazing fish and fantastic glowing squid! You do have to wait for a fairly windless day to snorkel the open Atlantic side as it can be rough. That's what is amazing about Lochabar Bay, the cays in front keep the water fairly calm, some days it was glassy, the days with bad weather a bit of a chop. There are stunning beaches on the Caribbean side of the Island, a very short drive away from the house. Galloway Beach and the coves near it are highly recommended. Calm waters, shade of the sea pines, heavenly. Nancy the caretaker and her nephew Earnest are a wealth of information and clued us in on other beaches worth seeing. The Blue Hole that is near the house may not be Dean's Blue Hole but it's beautiful and you can walk to it! Our last day we saw Flamingos on the beach and they circled my friend in her kayak, stunning. We highly recommend Lochabar House. Ron and Deb thanks! Long Island is beautiful and there is still so much to see.
