Heaven in the Bahamas

5 of 5
We stayed at the Tortuga House last month (February 2015) and it was the most relaxing vacation we have ever had. You wake up to the sound of the ocean gently lapping on the beach (that’s how close the water is). Your most pressing decision is whether to have your morning coffee in the screened in porch or to move out to the gazebo and enjoy the gentle breeze. The beach was private and wonderfully secluded. There were days when we saw no one. We felt like we had the Caribbean all to ourselves! The water was a rainbow of blues and greens. From the gazebo, we could see the sun coming up in the morning and setting in the evening. It doesn’t get much better than that! The house is very well equipped and very comfortable. Everything was new and well maintained. We rented a car, which is recommended given the secluded location of the house. Once you got used to driving on the left side of the road and avoiding the potholes, it was fun to drive to town. George Town is a cute little town and we became regulars at the Market and buying our fish at the local hair solon (“clip & chips”). We took a day to take the water taxi across the bay to Stocking Island where we enjoyed hamburgers, Kalik beer at the “Chat & Chill” and played some beach volleyball. Another day, we drove to drive to Little Exuma and had lunch at Santana’s Grill, which we learned was one of Johnny Depp’s hangouts while filming Pirates of the Caribbean (the many pictures of Johnny Depp confirmed that claim). An afternoon at Tropic of Cancer Beach topped off a beautiful day. While Stocking Island was fun and the TOC beach was exquisite, we were very happy to be back at Tortuga House’s private beach after both excursions. As indicated in the write up, if you are looking for nightlife and casinos, this is not the right choice for you. But if you are looking for relaxation and a little slice of heaven on earth, Tortuga House is your place. We would love to have the opportunity to go back again!

Quiet and relaxing stay

4 of 5
Our stay in the House on the Hill was very relaxing. The house is very comfortable with beautiful views of the water and stunning sunsets. Good follow-up from our host Eric Newman, dealing with him was very pleasant. Exuma is authentic. Part of the road close to the house from the main road is a bit challenging just have to take your time. A wonderful addition is Fanny's, a local bar run by Steve (from Charlie's/Fish Fry) and Vincent just as you turn on to the road from the highway to the house. You don't need to drive to Georgetown if you just want a drink, BBQ ribs/chicken/pork with garlic bread and good company. Would definitely go back.

Paradise in February

5 of 5
Highly recommend Harbour View for an authentic Exuma vacation, peaceful, restful, and good value. The listing description is accurate, the location is off the beaten track and well-placed to take advantage of the best part of the island -- between George Town and Little Exuma -- pristine beaches mainly deserted and beautiful. Moriah Cay a paradise in itself across the sound by kayak where yours are the only footprints on the beach. Don and Gail excellent hosts. Enjoy!
