Our stay at the Causarina House was fantastic. My husband & our 2 kids (8 & 10) had a wonderful, relaxing time.Days were beautiful & sunny (although with15-20mph winds...maybe just the time of the year we were here?).The water is a gorgeous turquoise & the beach is a soft white sand.
We arrived on Saturday about 5:00 pm & ate dinner at the Fish Fry (collection of several local "shacks" that sell food). We ate at Shirley's & enjoyed the food (be warned that all service on the island is on "island time").We discovered when we asked the staff there that all grocery stores were closed for the day. We had nothing in the house - no coffee, breakfast food. When we woke up Sunday, we went to have breakfast at Splash. The food was good & the atmosphere was fun.
Exuma Market & Shop Rite mart are the 2 grocery stores in Georgetown & they are open Sunday morning but only for a short time (about 11:00 am). No alcohol is sold at the grocery stores & no liquor stores are open on Sunday. There is a bigger selection of groceries at Exuma market but the prices are a little higher than ShopRite. One of our favorite places to go to was Prime Island Meats & Deli. They had great steaks, lunch meat, ground beef, & their chicken quarters were reasonably priced. The liquor store we went to (CNK Liquors) was right down the road (a little past Prime Island).
We ate out just a few times. We ate at Splash again for lunch, tried another place at the Fish Fry (Charley's), & made the trek to Santana's for lunch another day.Santana's had good food and the location on the beach was pretty, but it was a very long drive. The rest of the time we cooked at the house or on the charcoal grill. The flies swarm a bit when grilling, so be warned :) Be warned that everything (groceries, beer, restaurant food & drinks) is more expensive here.Very few places take credit cards, so you should bring cash with you. On the island, the exchange relate is 1:1.We discovered Kalik, a Bahamian beer. It was perfect for a beach vacation :)
The house was perfect for our family. We slept with the sliding glass door open all week & listened to the ocean lull us to sleep. We never turned on the A/C - ocean breezes kept the house perfectly cool. It is an older house, though, but you can't beat the view & the near seclusion. It is the most beautiful beach we've been to. We did see others on the beach from time to time (maybe 10-12 total the whole week). This was a perfect vacation. We had an amazing time!
