Had a wonderful 3 months stay at Dolphin cove last winter! (Jan. Feb. Mar.) 2014

5 of 5
First of all, I booked this trip blind and was hoping for the best. I just wanted to get out of Seattle for the winter. The weather and the beaches in Grand Bahama were perfect!! The room was fresh and clean and new and very comfortable, with a gorgeous view. After looking at prices in Florida, the price at Dolphin Cove was much more reasonable. My United Airlines air miles also got me all the way to Freeport. What I didn't know was how much fun the other residents staying there would be. Most of them were month long guests so we became close and took day and night trips together. Being a single woman, I really enjoyed the relationships I made. They were mostly other couples but a few singles too. Ken and Sherry and Don were wonderful and I attended the Thursday night cocktail parties which also helped me meet the other guests. I too, had family join me and rented them a double room for a week. I rented a car 3 weeks out of 3 months. Otherwise, I went to the grocery store on the available bike through the back neighborhoods. I was lucky enough to meet others with cars and they let me hitch a ride to the store, and to other road trips. I really lucked out with the friendliness of the other guests and staff. Most of my friends there are returning this year. I will definitely return. I had a wonderful experience at Dolphin Cove and I highly recommend this GEM of a place to anyone!! Ken and Sherry have worked hard and as a customer I really enjoyed my stay! Thank you very much!!!

Just what we were looking for!

5 of 5
This listing is exactly as described. Affordable lodging in a quiet condo only a few short minutes from a beautiful beach that is remarkably quiet and great for long walks. Port Lucaya is quite close and we walked there almost daily. Pat was wonderful and quick to respond right from the first email many months ago. Any question we had she quickly answered. She also picked us up at the airport and brought us to the grocery store for provisions prior to bringing us to the Viceroy House. She made sure we were situated and pointed out the trail to the beach from Port Lucaya. She made extra stops trying to find us a liquor store open on Good Friday without any complaint! We made most of our meals on the gas grill on the very comfortable patio...the chairs are almost too comfortable. Make sure you talk to a wonderful lady named Bev at the house. She can also answer any questions you may have about the house and the area. There is a great lending library in the laundry room and in the condo itself for anybody looking for a book to read. We enjoyed an outing with Grand Bahamas Nature Tours. Kayaking a tidal creek, lunch at Goldrock Beach, feeding raccoons, nature walk, caves and much more. If you are lucky enough to have Ben as your guide you will learn much about the flora, fauna and history of the Island. We had conch fritters and cracked conch at Billy Joe's shack on the beach near Memories resort and enjoyed a meal at Aguave where they make great chocolate martinis. If you don't mind giving up 90 minutes of your time you could attend a talk about vacation packages(new spin on timeshare) at Taino Beach or Memories resort and walk away with some great gifts such as $50 meal voucher, Tshirts, free breakfast or lunch or even a full day at Memories Grand Bahamas to enjoy the all inclusive amenities for a whole day. Someone is sure to approach you. This was a very relaxing holiday which is what we were looking for but there is also lots to keep you busy if that is what you like. Thanks Pat for making this property a great home away from home. I would not hesitate to return to the same location or recommend it to friends and family. Cheers!

Charming place close to everything!

5 of 5
Lovely apartment is just like it is described. The view of the pool and channel is charming. It is located in the quite channel but very close to Lucaya market, restaurants and beach. Supermarket is about 20 minute walk. No car is necessary. If you decide to take a tour of the island, you can rent a scooter or a car for a day-rental place is just around the corner. Scooter is lots of fun. It is only $50 for a whole day (8AM to 5PM) with gas and insurance). I stayed in this apartment for few days and had everything that I needed. The apartment was simply decorated and quite clean. Pat and her husband were very hospitable and helpful. They drove me to the supermarket twice and make sure I had everything I needed. Local people that live in this complex are super friendly. Community is gated and safe. I used the laundromat for $1.50 each (washer and dryer). I had my own detergent, but the apartment also had it. Pool looked lovely but it was too cold to use it. The patio around the pool looked inviting and clean. It has a big dining table and a bar table for eating outside. This apartment has everything for some basic cooking and I made few meals. Lucaya’s restaurants are ranging from casual to semi formal. We found them very decent. We liked Greek place and had few lunches there. The water is safe to drink; however, it does not taste great. I end up going to small convenient stores located in the Lucaya market to purchase water. Market place also had a coffee shop that served Starbucks coffee; however, the apartment had a coffee maker that I used. Beach is only 5 minutes walk and it is gorgeous. During my stay in February, it was also not crowded. You could find some solitude here. This is a very basic, “away from it all” but at the same time, “close to all” place. I would definitely stay with Pat again. Thank you for your hospitality!
