Sublime beach, wonderful hosts

5 of 5
The room is right on an amazing beach. I've been to beautiful beaches, Maldives, Maui, Sardinia, other islands in the Bahamas, and this is the best. This is paradise. It's warm, never crowded, just a few houses along it. Crystal clear water. Perfect oolite sand. Sublimely peaceful and beautiful. I don't think I ever saw more than maybe ten people on the beach at a time, and many times my wife and I had the whole beach to ourselves. The sea turtles swim right up to you. There are beautiful sunrises and sunsets. The hosts, Betty and Peter Oxley, are fantastic. They know the area well, suggested great boat trips, arranged cabs for us, and referred us to good places to eat. They are 100% reliable, communicate quickly and clearly via email, and were a pleasure to work with. I’m very grateful. As for the room, it has everything you need. This is a beach pad for grabbing sleep, showering, and eating. Everything works: the flatscreen TV is nice, the fridge is powerful, the hot water in the shower never ran out-- I have zero complaints. That said, don't expect it to be opulent, because many of the fixtures are showing their age and their proximity to the warm Caribbean ocean. If you’re the type of person who needs nothing less than brand new furnishings, then I'm afraid you won't be happy here. It’s low maintenance. They clean between visitors, but no one comes into the room to make your bed while you’re staying there. Who cares? You’re going to be spending most of your time by the water anyways. So if you can relax in dated, but completely functional and clean surroundings, you'll love it and you'll want to come back. We can't wait to do so. We can afford to stay at a very refined resort, but it’s more secluded here, and we’d rather spend the money on boat hires and other activities. There’s one main road on the island, and the house’s location along that road is good too. We opted to take cabs most places, but it’s easy to rent cars. There is a small store (groceries, drug store items, etc.) and a liquor shop right next to each other about a 10 minute walk away. There’s also a meat/seafood shop in the other direction (maybe a 10-15 minute walk), which has some very nice fresh stuff for good prices in case you want to grill outside or cook it up in your room. In summary, it is a sublimely beautiful setting, with a well-appointed accommodation, and wonderful hosts. I cannot wait to get back to the island, and I’ll be booking this same place again.

A well equipped house. Even soap was provided!

4 of 5
The views from the top terrace of the house looking out onto the bay are superb. The Tropic of Cancer beach is is only a minute or two away. The beach can be busy at times, but choose the right moment and the beach is empty. If solitude is what you want then this perhaps is not for you. There are houses around, but the view is not in any way obstructed by them. The road down to the house is rough for about a mile from the main highway. This is a good thing as if it was made up then the beach which is beautiful could become spoilt. There is an outside staircase to the top terrace, bedroom and bathroom. This was unexpected as I had assumed the staircase to be internal. The grocery store in George Town is the best I have found having visited most of the family islands. A mail boat comes from the States on Mondays. A huge and varied selection of fruit, vegetables, dairy food, meat etc., Bahamian mail boats come in on Tuesday and Thursdays.Shop on Tuesday and you will pick up what you want. But beware by Saturday many of the shelves may be empty! Santana's on Little Exuma I found very disappointing. I do not like paper plates and plastic knives and forks. The food was just piled onto the plate. But it seems popular.Tropic Breeze Beach Bar and Grill I much preferred. Lovely views overlooking the sea. Also enjoyed eating at the Yacht Club in George Town. We bought bread from Ma's bakery next door to Santana's. The house is very comfortable. Very well equipped. Previous comments say it all so I do not need to add anything. Any queries were addressed by Teri, both she and Charlie were very helpful. The weather for the month we were away was perfect. So we were very lucky. We much enjoyed our stay in Little Exuma and hope to return one day.

Better than advertised

5 of 5
Exceptionally clean and well designed home right on the beach. Less than 5 minutes front the airport yet we did not hear any planes going overhead. Views of the ocean were stunning and amazed us each time we walked through the door. Could walk for miles on the beach and barely run onto anyone. Needed a car to get to town and restaurants, we rented a boat at Minn's water sports and recommend it .... Fabulous snorkelling with sting rays, sea turtles and fish/coral. Spent each late afternoon at Chat n Chill. Would highly recommend to anyone
