A Different, More Secluded Side of The Bahamas

5 of 5
It just seems wrong to enjoy a ~3 mile stretch of premiere Bahamian pink sand beach all by yourself, but it's not... That's Windermere Island! Everything else, except the early arrival of the rainy season, was extraordinary. If you don't already know, island life is not that of suburbia. Running water, phone, internet, and electricity are a luxury. Appreciate them when they are working and don't cook when there's a storm coming. When you do lose utilities and just say "Iz the island man" in a Bahamian accent, “ebrything gonna be airey.” The property manager LaShanta was amazing, keeping us stocked and helping us stay comfortable. Patricia & Gerry Armstrong, too, are an email or text away to offer assistance or instructions. I was blown away by the extra amenities (kayaks, snorkel equipment, bikes, beach chairs, kitchen accessories, etc.) at this Villa, everything you could ask for on an island without paying a dime more. There was also an impressive collection of suggested beaches, caves, surfing, restaurants, and guided tours in the binder on the buffet. As for Eleuthera, it’s beaches were nothing short of amazing. Explore the island, rent an SUV, go off the beaten path, crack some coconuts and make some coconut ice cream. We'd love to go back. Our family of 6 had a superb time. Thanks again Gerry & Patricia!

Everything I hoped for and more

5 of 5
I highly recommend a stay at the Habiscus House. We stayed there for 10 days and loved every second of it. The house is very comfortable and has everything you need. Sure there are a few things that need some maintenance but they are so minor, it didn't detract from our enjoyment. The beach front was great for hanging out in the shade of the hut or swimming. We had so many days where the water was dead flat, it made for great swimming. There isn't much in the way of snorkeling out front but there is some small fish to play with. Check out the anchor under the buoy. There is a small moray eel that lives there. The grocery and liquor stores are a short drive away. We also enjoyed several day trips to the northern part of the main island and ferried to some of the smaller islands. Mostly we loved hanging out by the "Cut". We fished, biked, hiked and snorkeled there. The current was too strong for us to swim in but the little cove by the old boat "channel" had an awesome concentration of small fish. I also fished from the walls of the channel and caught some nice fish. We loved the bikes and kayaks and made good use of each. I am a birder and we saw many great species just walking down the road. James the caretaker and Jack the owner are both fantastic and only care about your comfort and well being. Each checked on us several times during the stay. If you love to fish and have never ocean fished, it's worth having James take you out. I was thrilled as we caught fish after fish. Plus you can't beat the fresh fish dinners we had. I can't wait to go back. Thanks Jack and James.

Breathtaking location and home!

5 of 5
From the first moment we arrived at Five Palms we were amazed at the home and location. It was everything that we expected from the description and more. Peter picked us up at the airport and Beryl made sure we were all settled in and had everything we needed. There were 24 of us (from seven months to 65) and we travelled from the west and east coast to have family time together - parents, our kids and their kids. It was a vacation that we had planned for several years and it was just perfect. Susan made the renting easy and Peter and Beryl made our stay so comfortable. Our son-in-law had to go to Nassau to the hospital and they were so helpful, considerate and calming. We enjoyed the pool and beach every day - watching the youngsters learn to surf and the older ones trying was so much fun. We had massages in the tiki hut, snorkeled, rode horses, went reef fishing and diving. We went to the Friday night fish fry which was great fun. When rest time came, the little ones watched movies (from a huge selection), did puzzles or played games. We could not have had a more perfect house or location for our vacation. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for their own little slice of heaven. We definitely plan to return - the kids are already asking for a definite return date. Thank you so so much Susan and your family for sharing this perfect spot with us. You have found gems in Peter and Beryl - they are wonderful.
