Wow. Our vacation to Elbow Cay was certainly one to remember. The house is well-equipped and perfectly located. Everything is either a golf cart or boat ride away. The view of the Atlantic from the house is without comparison. We watched the sun rise in the morning and stared at the spectacular array of stars every night. The wifi was a nice amenity for staying in contact with family back home.

Although we had stayed at Topside for many years, we had not been in the last four years. We were eager to get back to this special place and we were not disappointed. Topside is maintained at a very high level, not commonly encountered in many Bahamian rentals. Recently, the owners undertook complete refinishing of the wraparound wood deck, cleaning of the cisterns, and replanting the extensive gardens. All of this simply adds to the already magnificent scenery and surroundings. This house also is equipped with wireless internet, central air, and a generator that automatically comes on when the power goes out (not an uncommon event). While we were visiting, the local landlines were down, but a VHF radio and cell phones worked fine. The top deck gives a 360-degree view, both to the Atlantic in the east and the Sea of Abaco to the west. As noted, the house has a fully stocked kitchen (including a wok and a blender), great books, puzzles, and multi-media center. The great room concept with master suites on either end make sharing this house enjoyable. There is another small bedroom upstairs with a half-bath that gives a great view of the lighthouse. The new caretakers have settled in and the place was spotless and fresh cuts flowers from the garden awaited us. The caretakers were available by phone, but we also met them along the road into town. It's a small place, so everyone seems to know who's who. Traveling in late summer, especially after mid-August, you will find that several restaurants and businesses close for a hiatus. The grocery stores and marina stay open, as does the Hopetown Harbor Lodge (in town). A boat, golf cart, or bikes are the only transportation. This is a place to unplug and unwind and Topside is the perfect place to do it.

We stayed at Banana Split for 10 days and couldn't have asked for a nicer experience. Susan and John were staying downstairs at the time (agreed in advance) which turned out to be a big bonus as they very kindly took us on a boat tour of the area and gave all the local tips. They live there 6 months or more out of the year so the house is very well cared for, clean, and nicely decorated. The kitchen has all the amenities and the pool is great for the kids, small but does the trick nicely. There is a nice outdoor eating area and also a lounge area in the shade. The house is located close to town but equally in the middle of the island so you can visit either end within 10 minutes by golf cart. If you are a runner, you can take a nice 3-6 mile run in either direction and see the whole island. Hopetown is very quaint, the people very friendly (for the most part) and the choice of restaurants excellent. We will definitely be back and can highly recommend Banana Split to any vacationers. Thank you Susan and John for our best vacation to date! The Lindys
