Can't go wrong with this house

5 of 5
120 Seconds from the beach is a very accurate description of this home. Half of that on a golf cart. The best part of this location is the fact that it is on the south end of the beach. I think there are less people on this end. The house itself is really big. My family of five only used part of it. It is honostly nothing overly fancy but that was fine with us. Know going into it you will need to purchase all of the normal VRBO stuff although there were spices and coffee filters there. Also know you will need to purchase all of your drinking water. This is not exclusive to this house as all of the drinking water in HI is not fit to drink in my opinion. Jason, the owner, lives in Nassau but was so easy to reach he might as well have been next door. Any questions are problems I had were immediately addressed. All in all, this home is a great value for the size of it and the location in relation to the beach. I am sure I will be back again. Also, the local real estate agent that handled the transaction, Marcella with Dunmore Realty, came by and checked on us. She is great as well. Thank you Jason.

Special little spot

5 of 5
We (2 couples) had so much fun staying at the Hideaway. The property is located just outside of the town center-- just a quick golf cart ride to the grocery store, shops + restaurants. It's named quite appropriately as it feels like your own secluded "hideaway"! Catherine was extremely easy to work with, as was the property caretaker, Harrison, who was quick to get us everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. The home is decorated beautifully and was every bit as nice as some of the hotels we've stayed at on the island. We paid a pretty price ($50/day) to have the pool heated, which was great for the first 2 days when it was chilly, but probably unnecessary when the weather warmed up. But we had a great time hanging out by the pool, making Goombay Smashes in the blender! A few tiny critiques: would be nice to have a few koozies for beach going and such (as everything is crazy expensive on the island!); the washer broke while we were there, resulting in some very wet towels! All in all a perfect island getaway and we would definitely recommend the Hideaway to anyone traveling to Harbour Island!

Good restoration but maintenance could be improved

4 of 5
We stayed for a week in early Feb. We had travelled from London with our 1 year old little boy and It was nice to finally arrive! The pros and cons of Jewelbox are as follows: Owner/communication whilst booking - excellent. Trish answered all questions promptly and provided some good intel on Harbour Island. She is clearly passionate about the place and her advice was very helpful. We went to Sip Sip 5 times for lunch and would recommend Captain Bob's for groceries. Interiors - very good. The house has been tastefully restored and aesthetically speaking is very nice. Location - right in the middle of town near the 2nd best supermarket (Piggly Wiggly). The harbour is a quick stroll away and the beach is 20 minutes on foot or 5 minutes in a golf cart. We felt very integrated into the town and town is far more locals than the beach. Everyone is exceedingly friendly - having been lucky enough to visit over 30 different Caribbean islands, I can attest that Harbour Island is the friendliest I've been to. Maintenance - this is the only thing that fell short. When we arrived, the bath tub in the guest annex was full of water (we didn't realise for 24 hours) and made it smell very musty. I also nearly stood on a large piece of broken glass on the lawn (it happens but it should have been spotted). 2/3 of the electrical sockets in the kitchen went out for 3 days (Friday to Monday, so the weekend compounded matters and the housekeeper sorted this with a local electrician). The most annoying was that the outside dining area was flooded for the entire stay, so we couldn't sit and eat outside. Housekeeping - Eartha is a nice lady and easy to talk to but not the greatest cleaner. The lack of dishwasher meant the standard of washing up was pretty suspect and as we weren't going out to dinner, we cooked a lot. This led to a mountain of dishes on the sideboard that attracted flies and ants (despite a quick rinse) or we ended up just washing dishes a lot. This would be a good addition to this property. Wi-fi / stereo system - the wifi was pretty good (very good in the guest annex, which is lovely to sleep in btw). The house stereo system is brilliant - just fantastic. We did not attempt to use the app for wireless music but just plugged the iPhone in and it's one of the best systems I've seen in a rental ever. Recommended. In summary, almost a 3/5 but just a 4/5 due to the style of the restoration.
