Bahamian experience

5 of 5
My wife and I just spent 3 great weeks at the Banana Wind House. It was not our first trip to an out island but out first to Cat. The house is very private and right on the beach. We had our morning coffee on the deck just feet from the surf. A few times, a large herd of goats would wander by. The kitchen in the house is well appointed with everything we needed. Several nights we had a bonfire on the beach with driftwood that had been washed up. Reynolds, the caretaker, was easy to get a hold of if you ever needed anything. Several times we ordered dinner from his wife, Jan, which I would highly recommend. The people of Cat are very friendly and always willing to help. It was a great out island experience and we are planning our trip for next spring.

The Great Escape!

5 of 5
If you want to escape the routine and busyness of life, Cat Island is the place to visit!! We have travelled the family islands extensively over the past 15 years, but this was our first time to Cat. We spent 3 weeks in total exploring the island, and stayed at the Gate House our last week. The Gate house is a great cottage/home that has all the basics you need. It was clean, neat and showed exactly like what is listed on VRBO and the caretakers were wonderful! They arranged for one of their sons to go diving for us and supplied us with lobster and grouper, and they maintain the property very nicely. All the locals are very friendly, and we got used to 'waving' hello to all......and drive on the left at the same time!! The main reason to go to an 'out island' is to appreciate the relaxing atmosphere, there are no "have to do this or that", it was true R & R. If your looking for tons of people, nightlife and shopping this isn't the place to do it. However, we snorkelled both on our own and with a local, utilized the kayaks supplied and went across the bay and up the creek. We saw turtles and fish, and walked the beach and swam in the shallow waters at the opening of the creek. We went out for lunch one day and enjoyed the beaches over by Greenwood, and went for dinner at Hawk's nest. They need to know in advance your coming but the food and service was excellent. We read, we hiked up to the Hermitage, and ate at the food shacks along the water in New Bight. Gate House was a great value price wise, and is perfect for up to 4 people. The huge deck was awesome to sit out and enjoy the breezes coming off the atlantic, and with all the windows provided the same breezes inside! We will definitely return to Cat Island next year and stay at the Gate House!!

Sun and Sand

5 of 5
we really needed this vacation, so we were very pleased when we arrived to find this home so beautiful. everything was exactly as discribed. we have rented homes in the bahamas before and in this price range, this is by far the nicest place we've stayed at with the best amenities. fabulous beach! also, it was extremely helpful to be able to rent the owner's vehicle, as vehicle rentals in the islands can be not the nicest. we were advised to bring food along (what ever you can carry) however, we found this to be a pain and not really needed. the grocery stores are modest but if you are not expecting a gourmet grocery, you can easily make do. we used the BBQ every day. the liquor stores are well stocked. if you are looking for a layed back vacation, this is a great place. we hope to go back some day.
