Excellent Stay!

5 of 5
We stayed for 3 nights in one of Ida’s 2 BR cottages end of October –everything we hoped for - very nice, clean, nicely decorated, had all we needed in the cottage and kitchen. Even had TV’s/DVD/Movies which we didn’t need while we were there! Ida’s Cottages: - A 2 minute walk to the ocean side – nice beaches to explore; 30 second walk down some steps to the bank side, nice cove shallows out at low tide, kids did a lot of exploring - View of water from all sides of cottage from windows and wrap-around porch, outdoor table/seating, Breeze blew threw - Immaculate – Ida takes great pride to be sure everything is perfect, our cottage looked like it had all brand new furniture and appliances, bedding - Kitchen – fully stocked w/ nice cooking utensils/appliances/plates, Rachel Ray pots and pans!, sharp knives that were tested with about 6 rounds of conch salad in 3 days - Hot Water, A/C, Internet, Ceiling Fans - Golf Cart included with the cottage seated all 4 of us - Ida provided true hospitality – picked up from airstrip, checking on us to be sure all was well during our stay, advice on the island, stocked with some groceries and drinks we provided list ahead of time, let us check-out late our last day since nobody else was coming into our cottage that day - Some nice touches: Supply of nice beach towels, some basic kitchen necessities – salt, pepper, oil, soaps, etc., about 25 DVD’s, golf cart, nice gazebo down on the beach - Things we did on the island – Blow hole, 4 or 5 beaches, explored island via golf cart, rented boat/guide, driftwood garden, local restaurants and bar, fresh made coconut and cinnamon breads from 2 of the local mom’s, visited school, fishing, shelling, conching, snorkeling, We took a look at Ida’s other 3 cottages and they all looked nice with similar amenities and perfect view.

The Most Amazing Experience

5 of 5
I can't begin to describe how wonderful our trip was to Black Point. Lorraine and her family were so welcoming and truly made this trip one I will never forget. Our immediate regret was not reserving enough time here. We were able to add a couple more days and it was still hard to leave. The cottage was perfect for my friend and I and, like many others suggested, we brought frozen meats, cheeses, and alcohol as they were a bit hard to find on the island. If you need something though, Lorraine will either have it, or tell you where to find it. She also owns a bar/restaurant in town that stocks plenty beer and alcohol if you need :) The cottages are set on a hill between two beautiful beaches. We loved having a cart to explore the island and get from the cottage into town. The feeling you get here is almost unexplainable as I've never been anywhere with a 0% crime rate and a community that welcomes you like family. We loved learning about the culture in Black Point, how to clean and cook conch, attending church (led by Lorraine's mother, who also makes the best coconut bread) and getting a tour of the Cays from her brother. We fed iguanas, swam with pigs and sharks, and snorkeled into the magical Thunderball Grotto. I don't recommend brining dive gear here. We intended to dive out of Staniel Cay, which closed permanently after we booked our trip, and the pilot of Flamingo Air frowned on the excess weight we would've left had we known. We were in no way disappointed because the snorkeling was top notch if you figure out where to go. If your idea of vacation is touristy resorts, this place is not for you. It's perfect for friends and family that can make their own fun, love exploring, immersing themselves in culture, and want to see the most beautiful water and beaches around. Not only would I recommend vacationing here, but I would move here if I could :) I will be returning in the hopefully near future as I miss it and the people every day.
