We were two families travelling together spending a week in Kyoto. We rented the adjacent homes and our stay was the highlight to four time in Japan. The kids came and went from each house. The houses were immaculate and gave us the sense of really living in Japan. We had maid service on the third day and everything was sparkling upon our return. It was great to have the laundry in the house, cost prohibitive at the hotels we used the rest of our trip. The kids played in the neighborhood and it felt very safe. Short walks to a great pizza restaurant (Pizzeria Al Camino) around the corner and nearby access to the covered shopping arcade. Kyoto Castle easy walking distance. We used buses from a stop within 50m of the houses and the local train station was an easy walk. We rented bikes for a day which was great (9 bikes), the shop was a bit of a walk but very friendly (J-Cyclery, I think). Nice organic grocery store also nearby to add to the more 7-11 type outlets.
Would highly recommend either home and if you are travelling as a group like we were be prepared to never want to leave!
