I have a villa in RIo de Janeiro and had a group of friends visiting. Decided to add on 4 nights in BA since so many had travelled so far. Being a villa owner - you can imagine I am one very fussy guest. I also know how to evaluate after 4 years at Hotel School. This property is wonderful, warm, well-situated, well appointed, and very value priced. Ruben who greeted us and helped us with tourism there gets my A++ rating and no one could possibly do it better. Do not get me wrong - the place is not perfect. The plants sure could use about 4 hours of a good gardeners attention & the kitchen although filled with everything a cook could desire to prep a big meal - needs an hour of cabinet and drawer organizing. But overall - it was just so right for me and my guests. The layout is peculiar but so roomy. All 4 bedrooms on the ground floor were huge and well appointed. Ditto on laundry, 2 bathrooms, BBQ glass roofed atrium, and huge kitchen and dining area.
THe second floor had a spectacular master suite which is lofted over - and a separate small kitchenette and livinig room with 2 very comfortable sofas (we used these to sleep 2 of us). Great garden off this area with nice iron furniture. There is no problem sleeping 12 in this home - and everyone has lots of privacy.
Rubin who met us and manages the place is a real winner. Kind, great communications skills, detailed, on time, full of great stories and very knowledgable about Argentina and South America. It was marvelous to listen to him. He organized many tours, drivers, reservations for us - and each was a quality experience. He represents the US owner very well. It is so nice to hear someone who so likes their job and their boss. All with good reason I would assume.
The neighborhood for me was perfect. Large groups need a venue where 2 or 3 can break off and in minutes go their own way so shop, or dine, or just walk around. This was the perfect venue in that respect. I love San Telmo - and the great Mercado de San Telmo on the same street as the house. Incredible cheese, sausage, fruits, meat, vegetables and tons of antiques. Roaring with 1930's atmosphere.
The Desnivel restaurant (so cheap and so great) is on the next block. marvelous Lomo - a cut of beef. Petanque - a favorite resaurant is so fun, and so Parisian. A 4 block walk La Brigada which was recommended by a tour operator we met on the plane is on same street A++ Great meats and salad
would rent again
