We thoroughly enjoyed this rental and meeting the hosts. This was our 7th vacation rental through HomeAway and the first time I've given a rating of 5 stars. The description and pictures in the listing are accurate, the property was spotless and very well equipped, and the hosts are wonderful people. I would highly recommend this to a friend or relative (though it’s correctly noted that the property isn’t suitable for small children or pets).
The cottage has a main building with a living room, kitchen/dining room, and combined bath/laundry/utility on the first floor, and upstairs a large bedroom with its own living area. Out back is a smaller second cottage joined by a short pergola, with only an upstairs and downstairs bedrooms, and a screened porch. We rented both for two weeks as we had an 18 year old daughter and a 21-year old son who flew in for a weekend, and it worked great for us. The lot is wooded and the cabin is surrounded by lovely gardens and landscaping. Location is in a quiet, low-density neighborhood with the sound of a creek nearby. (I’m a light sleeper but had no problems here.) None of the neighbors are visible through the trees, so it feels private and sylvan without being remote or isolated. Inside the cabins are beautiful and filled with quality furnishings and décor. The photos in the listing are really what it’s like, these aren’t fake glamor shots.
What makes this rental special is the truly excellent hosts and the fascinating cabins and grounds. After a week we were still discovering interesting objects in the house and admiring the gardens. It also was like home for us; being able to come back after a day in the great outdoors, kick back in patio chairs and have a bonfire or grill fresh fish on the BBQ. The hosts are very thoughtful and have stocked the house with everything needed…we bought some groceries at a local grocery, some items from a farmer’s market, and almost immediately upon arrival were cooking meals and living a “normal” life.
The location is out away from Anchorage (20 minutes from downtown), but that is a selling point as the area is more scenic, peaceful, and that much closer to the things we came to Alaska for. We were impressed with all the parks, places to hike, and wildlife within just a few miles.
