                        Neat, peaceful, well maintained.

This little house is perfect for a couple, or small family, to have a peaceful, stay on Dauphin Island. The house actually reminded me of a renovated version of the home my grandmother and grandfather lived in back in the 50's. However, that's a good thing. Robert and Patricia have the place very modernized, well decorated, with all the modern conveniences of any condo on the market. The house is just a block from the main highway through Dauphin Island. However, it is extremely quiet and peaceful. There are bicycles available, although we didn't have a need for them. The ferry is close, the restaurants on the island are close, Fort Gaines is close, the airport is close, the public beach is close. Everything is close to Sandy Hook. Robert and Patricia were very easy to deal with, renting the home, and Robert has all the background on the home, the area, and the island, and was nice enough to give us a history lesson upon our arrival. I would definitely stay at Sandy Hook, again.

Relaxing getaway on the river, live like a local!

                        5 of 5
This was our first time to stay on the river instead of the island, and I have to say we had the most relaxing vacation here! This "cottage" is actually a spacious 3 bedroom 3 bath house. The furnishings are modern and comfortable, the beds slept like a dream and the kitchen is fully stocked with everything you could need. This is also one of the cleanest houses we have stayed in. We grilled steaks one night so I can vouch that the grill is sparkling clean! There was even an extra tank of gas for the grill, just in case. :) We ordered seafood from Zirlotts next door, they were very kind and had it waiting at the house for us. The stuffed shrimp are wonderful and individually frozen so you can cook a few each evening to go along with your meals. The lump crab and crab claws were super fresh! We also enjoyed a great dinner at Beaudeans and Dauphin Island BBQ is always good. We brought our boat around from Dauphin Island, which takes about an hour or so if you come down the Fowl River. It is a pleasant ride but watch the tides as the river can be very shallow in some areas. We literally spent hours on the screened-in back porch, watching the birds during the day and the stars at night. We saw waterfowl you don't usually see on the island, including an osprey with his fish dinner. Turns out the osprey nest is just up the river a bit, we found it when we were out in our boat. Our favorite time was spent on the porch listening to a thunderstorm, then afterwards the chorus of a million frogs. Bring your bug spray if you plan to walk down to the dock, the horseflies will be waiting for you LOL I used Deep Woods Off and they didn't bother me a bit, hubby had to make a run for it! Julie is awesome to work with, even with only 3 hours notice she was able to get us in without a hitch! We will definitely be back!

                        Execellent

My stay at the Whale House was wonderful. The house is very charming, clean, and well stocked. I loved it that I could walk to the bakery and S&S. The house is located in a very nice neighborhood. I enjoyed taking evening walks around the neighborhood and sitting on the porch listening to the quite. I highly recommend this rental.
