We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation at The Rookery. The property was just as described and Paul, the property owner, was incredibly easy to work with. Our family was very comfortable in the house and the walk to the pool or beach was perfect. We appreciated the appeal of the Wildlife Refuge and the distance from the busier spring break scene in Gulf Shores. We enjoyed meals at Lulu's, King Neptunes, and Lambert's. We fished in the Bon Secour wildlife refuge and on the dock between Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Other fun events included a dolphin cruise, a ferris wheel ride at the Wharf, shelling, hiking on the nature trails, and sunsets at Fort Morgan. The privacy of the home and of the Rookery in general were a great appeal to our family (grandma, grandpa, mom, dad, and kids ages 9, 11, and 13). We were able to spy many birds, critters, lizards, but never an alligator. The only downside to our trip was the high sand gnat population. This is obviously not anything that the property owner could do anything about, but it is helpful to know that at the time that we were there (not sure if this is typical), the gnats were pretty profuse and biting. Even so, we would stay here again and just pack more bug repellant. Overall an amazing trip and a perfect accommodation for our family.
