Loved Mim's Whim

5 of 5
We loved this house. Very short walk to the beach. Drive to town wasn't bad. We managed to do everything we wanted to do. Dauphin Island was a neat place to visit. Planning on staying at Mim's Whim in the future.

Perfect for Extended Family

5 of 5
This house was fantastic and perfect for our group of 15. The set up with bedrooms and bathrooms in each corner gave each family their separate space. We loved coming together for meals and all sitting together at the huge dining table. The view and proximity to the beach exceeded our expectations. We could enjoy the ocean and the waves from the deck, and only had to cross the small gravel road to get to the private boardwalk. It was nice not to have to worry about traffic on the road for the kids. The kitchen was the best equipped out of any rental I have been in. We cooked every night and were not lacking of any kitchen tool. There were plenty of dishes, glasses, and silverware. The living space also has a bunch of games, puzzles, books and movies that appealed to all ages in our group. The only negative was that we didn't expect that we would have to pay for use of the beach club. It was a small fee considering our large group and worthwhile, we just didn't anticipate it when we made the reservation. It is also not very convenient to grocery stores. That being said, it was very nice not to be surrounded by condos. The beach was very serene and quiet. The temps in late December ranged from 50 on the coldest day to 70 on the warmest day. We had a blast and would definitely consider coming back!

What a wonderful place!

5 of 5
We stayed at Winward from July 3 to July 10, 2010. It was even better than the listing described. This was such a peaceful place. It was quiet and private. I cannot emphasize enough how nice it was to have three private beach lots with plenty of room to spread out. We did not have to fight for a postage stamp sized square of beach or edge our way through crowds. The beach is an easy walk from the beach house. The house itself was clean, cheerful, and equipped with everything we needed. Everything was in good working order, and there were very clear instructions on how to use everything. We had plenty of room for our party of six adults and two children. We enjoyed grilling out on the patio, and the outdoor showers were so nice in helping keep the sand out of the house. I cannot say enough about how helpful and accomodating the owners were. Mr. Ward communicated with us weekly to keep us updated on the beach conditions with the oil spill and hurricanes, and we felt him to be honest in all dealings. He was quick to respond to all questions and even called to check on us when we arrived and sent us updates on activities around town during our visit. The books in the beach house were very helpful in helping us find restaurants and things to do. I woud recommend this property without any hesitation. Some of our favorite non-beach things were Waterville USA, DeSoto's restaurant, and the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo. We did not love Lulu's; for us the food was just not worth the price and the hour and a half wait.
