New Mexican History by Mountainair Cabins

Mountainair cabins are in a town which began in 1903, due to John Corbett, Colonel E.C. Manning, and E.S. Stover. The Homestead Act of 1889 brought settlers to the Estancia Valley where Mountainair rentals are now located. With the pioneers came the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad. The railroad created a cut-off route to Belen through Abo Pass. Mountainair is at the top of the pass and was easy to see from the rail cars. The town largely survived on pinto bean farming, especially during the two world wars. You could find that your Mountainair lodging is situated near an old pinto bean farm that served the wars.
