AmsterdamStay is the oldest and, by far, the most successful online vacations rentals company in Amsterdam, which allows us to insist upon the highest standards from all the property owners we list.
The team behind AmsterdamStay actually started by owning and managing their own set of Amsterdam apartments. We had the good fortune to be the first in The Netherlands to offer online vacation rentals and the first to understand that, in an Internet age, the best form of marketing is to give guests an incredible experience that they tell their friends about and share online. It seems obvious but even today, more than a dozen years later, most Amsterdam short let property owners still don’t get it. Following that simple insight, we pioneered innovative new offerings, such as equipping our apartments with completely free minibars and Sony Playstations (a big deal at the time!), and, perhaps most important of all, having a good laugh with guests and doing all we could to ensure that they had a great time. We blew away the traditional Amsterdam short-let market which was, frankly, apathetic towards guests (Dutch culture is not service-oriented) and penny-pinching in ways that detracted from the guest experience. This was a huge success, becoming by far the most popular vacation rental business in the city, often booked out a year in advance. Taking that frontline experience, in 2002 we launched AmsterdamStay, an agency that would list the best of Amsterdam properties owned by others. From the start, we were able to use our own success to persuade owners that it made sense to provide a top-notch experience that would not only result in repeat bookings but, also, rave reviews online, massively multiplying the return on their effort and increasing the value of their own business. Being based in Amsterdam, the AmsterdamStay team were able to take a deeply hand-ons approach to helping owners to continually improve their service, always aiming for 100% satisfaction and realizing that basic actions, such as delighting guests upon arrival with a truly clean apartment, would get you half the way there from the start.
What This Means in Practise? Today, AmsterdamStay has the best reputation and the top search engine positions. This means that owners who want to fill their entire calendar with bookings come to us and we are in a position to choose the best and to insist that they adhere to our standards and our winning philosophy. If owners cannot provide guests with a good experience they cannot remain listed on AmsterdamStay. Every day, we reject properties that would not live up to our reputation. We insist upon visiting each in person and taking our own photos - giving a true sense of an apartment is a key part of our service to guests. We also pay close attention to the attitude and personality of the owner. We have been doing this for over a decade and we can tell you that there are some filthy hovels in this city. We can also confirm that there are some owners with a rotten, rotten attitude and we will never let them get anywhere near our guests. The most alarming thing, however, is that every single apartment we reject has no problem getting listed on the other vacation rental sites - our secret weapon has always been that we care enough and pay close enough attention to know which apartments are just bad news. Our Service - The AmsterdamStay Difference Perhaps the main reason why big vacation rental sites will take any apartment without even visiting it or vetting the owner, is that they know they won’t have to deal with any problems - as long as they get their cut, nothing else matters. As a small Amsterdam-based company, with no billionaire Silicon Valley investors to keep happy, we actually take a much smaller booking commission (another reason why the best owners stick with us) and, because we are based right here in Amsterdam, we can provide a “Live Concierge” service between 8:30AM and half-past-Midnight, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. This means that, if you have any sort of problem, you can phone or Live Chat with us and we will solve the problem, even if that means hoping on a bike and delivering you a working kettle, a pile of fluffy white towels or a properly-tuned piano.
