Holiday Festival of Lights

The Holiday Festival of Lights is a favorite event of the year in Charleston, South Carolina. This annual event takes place over the course of the holiday season, usually from the middle of November through the beginning of January. During these weeks, James Island County Park is lit up with over two million lights to provide a festive three-mile driving tour. If you're planning a trip to Charleston or any of the surrounding beaches at the end of the year, the Holiday Festival of Lights will be sure to brighten up your holiday celebration.

In 2011, the Holiday Festival of Lights will take place from November 10 through January 1 , 2012. During these weeks, tradition will return to James Island County Park as a spectacle of lights takes over the green space. There are several ways to enjoy the light show. You can drive your own car through the three-mile itinerary (for a cost of $10 per car) or you can grab a seat on the 54-passenger train that runs along the same route. To ride the train, the cost is $3 per person, and children under the age of two can ride for free.

Beyond the Light Show

While over two million lights are definitely the star or the Holiday Festival of Lights, there are also other activities that make this festival appealing to families. More holiday entertainment includes marshmallow roasts, gift shops, a climbing wall, and carousel rides. If you're looking for traditional Christmas entertainment, be sure to get your kids' photo taken with Santa and to visit Santa's Sweet Shoppe .
