the Saint Croix Ironman Triathlon happens. If you love biking, running and swimming, there is no lovelier place to do it.
The small town of Lubenice, on the island of
Cres, has a stone beach that takes 45 minutes of walking to reach. This isn't the place to work on your surfing or scope out beach honeys, but if you love a contemplative time gazing at
the Adriatic Sea , this is your place.

The Audubon Society has actually declared the beaches on this island to be an Important
Bird Area . You can see hundreds of different species here if you pay careful attention. You can also get in some great shelling, or just take a nice stroll.
Willemstad is a bustling city, so Curacao's incredible beaches and trails may keep you away from it for awhile. However, there are two very good reasons to head back into the throng of humanity during the month of May:

the Curacao Jazz Fest . You'll find great tunes and great activities on the water - see if you can squeeze in both.
The beaches here are full of room to spread out and relax. If you love to snorkel, the waters off of Friendship Bay Beach sparkle like so much tinsel and open up to a lot of great underwater wildlife.
Playa Parguito is the place to go during this relative lull season. The weather isn't too hot or too cold, making it just right by Goldilocks' standards. With the great surfing and the unique mixture of Caribbean and Latin culture, this is a great place to hang out and party.
One of the best beach vacations in May is on
Costa de la Luz's Santa Maria del Mar . While it's only 800 yards long, this golden sand beach is a great place to see some serious beauty on the Atlantic.
The Destin-Fort Walton Beach caps off the white sand wonderland that is the Emerald Coast. Quite possibly one of the loveliest little beaches in Florida, this relatively undiscovered haven for porpoise-watching, lounging in your rental or just taking a warm dip is just idyllic in May.
