Best Festivals in January

Why let the festivities end with New Year's? After the holiday season there are plenty more festivals in January that are worth a trip. Instead of suffering through this typically bleak month, why not plan a trip around your hobbies? Some of the best festivals in January are focused on food, music, and film. Whatever you're interested in, you can find a festival to match during the month of January.

1. Tournament of Roses

Pasadena's annual New Year's traditions, the Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl, are part of a multi-day festival of pomp and pageantry that has become a country-wide New Year's Day celebration. Sure, you can catch the parade or the Rose Bowl game on TV, but there's nothing like being there.

See the floats before they travel down Colorado Blvd. at their unveiling on Dec. 28. Attend Equifest on Dec. 29 to see the horses perform before they strut their stuff in the parade. Bandfest, Dec. 29-30, showcases the best of the parade's bands. It all leads up to a January 1 parade and bowl game day like no other.

2. Golden Globe Awards

Looking for another excuse to travel to Los Angeles? The Golden Glove Awards take place every January, bringing together the hottest actors and celebrities all in one place. Film buffs can plan a trip around this event and attend the red carpet and maybe even an after party or two.
