Attractions on the Water
Texas Ski Ranch is another one of the unique attractions of New Braunfels. This is a man-made lake that offers great water skiing, as well as a motocross track and a climbing wall. Canyon Lake, however, is the place you want to be for boating, swimming and fishing. This deep lake has eight public parks surrounding it, offering picnicking, boating, and fishing. With over 80 miles of shoreline, it has plenty of room for exercise.
Ready to kick back and enjoy the Texas sunshine? With the Guadalupe River running through the heart of the town, the best day trip you can take your family on is a tubing adventure down the river. Billy Goat’s Gruff Tube Rental will give you a tube and a free shuttle to the drop-off site, and then pick you up further down the river. The trip is low-key enough for an adult to relax, and exciting enough that kids have a blast splashing around. Of course, you can head to the Comal River as well. At only two miles long, the Comal River is the world’s shortest river. There are plenty of places along its banks for good picnicking, sports, or relaxation.
City LifeOur favorite place to enjoy the outdoors in the heart of New Braunfels is the Faust Street Bridge. This is a walking bridge across the Guadalupe river. Located in the center of town, it boasts beautiful scenery, a serene atmosphere, and a great place for catch and release fishing.
You can always put a little learning in your vacation with the educational things to do in New Braunfels, including the children’s museum and a wildlife ranch. McKenna Children’s Museum is designed for your kids to thrive, giving them the opportunity to act as an artist, doctor, banker, gardener, and more. If you need a day indoors, this is the place to go. If you are an animal lover, however, you will love Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch. This safari park has over 400 kinds of animals, including lemurs, zebras, and kangaroos. Not only can you get closer to the animals, you can even feed them!
One festival you and your friends should never miss in New Braunfels is Oktoberfest.
