There are some events that can only happen in New York City. One example is the New York Comedy Festival, an event that manages to gather almost every major name in comedy in one place for five days of laughter. Produced by the New York City comedy club Caroline's on Broadway, this festival will immediately immerse visitors in the culturally rich atmosphere of
New York City. Why wait for individual comedians to come to your hometown when you can plan a trip to see them all in one place?
The 2011 Festival
The New York Comedy Festival is taking place in
2011 November 9 - 13 . Major names in comedy will be taking the stage including
Bill Maher ,
Ricky Gervais ,
Tracy Morgan ,
Sarah Silverman and many more. Spread over five days, these comedians will perform at a range of classic New York City venues including
the Beacon Theatre ,
Caroline's on Broadway ,
Carnegie Hall ,
Town Hall ,
the 92nd Street Y , and more. This means that beyond the chance to see your favorite comedians, you will also get to explore different New York neighborhoods at the same time.
Planning Your Trip
It is easy to look at a lineup that includes
Kathy Griffin ,
Louis C.K , and
Russell Peters and not know where to start. The festival is spread over five days, and many of the comedians are performing more than once. The shows are all in the evenings, with comedians taking the stage at different times from 7.30 p.m. to 10 p.m. This means you will have plenty of time during the day to explore the historic attractions, museums, neighborhoods, and restaurants of New York City.
Tickets
Tickets for the New York Comedy Festival are available online. On the official festival website, you will find a schedule of all the comedians, including details on the venue and ticket price. Unlike other festivals that offer a ticket for the entire festival, with the New York Comedy Festival you buy tickets for individual events. This allows you to participate as much or as little as you would like in the festival events. Some visitors will choose events based not only on the comedian, but the location. For example, if you've never been to the famous Caroline's comedy club, you should include a show at this venue in your itinerary.
Special Events
There are several events that make up the New York Comedy Festival. There are of course the comedy shows, including "Still Hungry" by John Pinette and "Tired Hooker" by Kathy Griffin but there are also events that will allow you to get to know the comedians better. For example, if you've always wanted to hear the inside stories behind Ricky Gervais's jokes, attend "A Conversation with Ricky Gervais" to find out. These are the special events that make the New York Comedy Festival much more than just a long list of random stand-up comedy routines.
