The 2012 Festival
In 2012, the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival is scheduled for June 1 through June 10
. This festival got its start in 1983 with the purpose of showcasing the local flourishing jazz community in Vermont. Over the years many different aspects of the festival have developed, including master classes, meet-the-artist sessions, intimate performances, and more. In 2012, the festival will take place at locations throughout Burlington including the Flynn Center
- the premiere performing arts center in the region - along with clubs, restaurants, parks, the waterfront, and the Church Street Marketplace stages
. In addition to performances, educational events including workshops and question and answer sessions are an important element of this festival.
The Burlington Discover Jazz Festival is a 10-day event that seeks to broaden both the appreciation and awareness of jazz through performances and educational activities. While some people might think of a jazz festival as an adults-only event, that isn't the case here. The festival is aimed at students of jazz at all ages and backgrounds. This festival is not only one of the biggest in Vermont but is one of the best known jazz festivals in the country. Past performers include some of the biggest names in jazz including Ella Fitzgerald
, Dizzy Gillespie
, Sonny Rollins
, and many more. The festival also showcases a variety of regional talent.
If you're interested in purchasing tickets for this festival, there are three ways to do so: online, over the phone, or in person at the box office of the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts
. Every year an estimated 45,000 people show up to participate in events over the 10 days. Tickets go on sale in mid-April for the June event and group discounts for groups of over 20 people are available. In 2011, ticker prices were $30 for advance tickets, and $35 for tickets at the door. Prices and details for 2012 will be released in mid-April.
Some people will travel to Burlington just for the atmosphere of the intimate performances and waterfront shows, while others will be interested in the educational events too. Meet the Artist sessions
are always popular, while other options include guitar workshops, lectures on important figures in jazz, even jazz in films screenings. In addition, the Jazz Lab
delves into the recording process of jazz and opens up question-and-answer sessions with both artists and engineers. Between these events and jazz performances day and night, this festival is packed full of entertainment.
Vacation Rentals for the Burlington Disco Jazz Festival
In addition to jazz, a trip to Burlington should also be relaxing. Choose a nearby vacation rental
and in between guitar workshops and waterfront concerts, you can put your feet up and soak in the serene Vermont atmosphere. A rental will give you the opportunity to get away from the crowds and relax in your own living room. For the comforts of a home away from home in Burlington, nothing beats a cozy vacation rental.
