Enjoy Arizona's Weather and Many Things to Do this Winter
Phoenix and Scottsdale, Arizona, are both known for enjoying around 300 days of sunshine per year. While summer days may be hot and sticky,
winter vacations in Phoenix offer perfect conditions for touring the area. Most winter days are sunny with clear blue skies and temperatures in the 70s. Night temperatures in Phoenix never get below 40° F. Best of all, winter is the dry season in Arizona, with low humidity and little chance of rain. Here are some great things to do from a Phoenix or
Scottsdale vacation rental in this gorgeous winter-sunshine destination:
Enjoy the Desert Blooms
Phoenix has a unique attraction focusing on the many cacti and succulents that can only be found in the desert. The Desert Botanical Gardens offer five different trails for visitors to follow, highlighting various aspects of the Sonoran Desert.
Step Back in Time
The Heard Museum in Phoenix is an excellent collection of historic artifacts and artworks with particular reference to Native American culture. As well as showcasing the past, the museum is right up to date, featuring craftsmen and artists who present demonstrations of their handiwork for visitors.
View African Wildlife
The Out of Africa Wildlife Park in Scottsdale, Arizona, offers trolley tours featuring animals roaming in their natural habitat. See giraffes, lemurs, leopards, lions and other African species. The wildlife park also puts on special shows each day.
Climb a Mountain
Camelback Mountain is just outside the city of Phoenix. Named for its distinctive camel’s-hump shape, the red rock cliffs offer a challenge to climbers. Lizards, snakes, birds and other wildlife make their home in this beautiful area. The best time to visit is in the pleasant winter months when it is not too hot.
See How the Victorians Lived
Step into the Victorian period when you enter Rosson House, an interesting historic home in downtown Phoenix. Visitors of all ages enjoy the guided tour through the home, learning about life before 1900. Rosson House is one of eight restored homes in Historic Heritage Square.
Hike the Trails
Echo Canyon Trail and Recreation Center are ideal attractions for the experienced hiker. The trail is one mile long and provides a tough challenge to the summit with amazing views across Phoenix. You may even be able to spot your vacation rental from the top!
Appreciate International Artworks
The Phoenix Art Museum has a range of ever-changing exhibits and permanent displays that focus on Asian, Spanish, Western and 20th-century artworks. The gallery also has a children’s area called the Artworks Gallery.
Catch a Pro Baseball Game
Seeing the Arizona Diamondbacks play a game of Major League Baseball at Chase Field is an activity not to be missed. If there are no games scheduled, take a guided tour of this massive stadium, see the excellent park facilities and take a look at the retractable roof, which is used to protect fans from the summer heat.
Visit a Castle
Nicknamed “The Wedding Cake” for its tiered appearance, Tovrea Castle is a major landmark in the city of Phoenix and one of its 33 “Points of Pride.” Built in 1928 for Italian businessman Alessio Carraro, the castle boasts magnificent desert landscaping in the surrounding gardens. It was sold to Edward and Della Tovrea in 1931, and the name was changed to reflect its new owners. The building was later bought by the city, restored and opened for public tours and events. The gardens now have over 5,000 cacti, and the attraction is on the National Register of Historic Places.
