Things to Do in Maui

From the Beach to the Zip Line

Thousands of people flock to Maui every year to break away from the grind and escape to tropical breezes, ocean waters, warm sand, and a plethora of amazing activities and awesome events. Maui vacation rentals offer up a world of exotic adventure. Trek up the powerful Haleakala volcano, or tour the tropical rainforest of Hana. But of all things to do in Maui, a lot revolve around the beach. The sun shining on the sand in Lahaina, Kaanapali, Wailea, and Kihei makes it glimmer brilliantly, creating the perfect paradise complement to the beautiful surroundings.

There are many sightseeing tours by land or air that are readily available to visitors. Companies in Maui offer helicopter tours of the best places on the island, affording a trip you will never forget. For those who feel more comfortable with solid ground under their feet, there are also a variety of land-based tours up the winding roads to Hana and other majestic sites. You can end your day of sightseeing or relaxing with a festive luau, putting a fitting ending on a wonderful day. There are also many other evening activities including live entertainment, elegant or casual dining, midnight cruises and more. With such a variety of things to do in Maui, you can plan not just the perfect day, but many of them.

Piiholo Ranch Zipline

One of the most fun things you can do is ziplining.  Flying through the air like a bird, over the trees and through the rainforest…amazing.   The Piiholo Ranch Zipline is one of Maui’s best. It begins with a walk across a 317-foot-long bridge, high in the air, leading to the ziplines that you will be riding on. You are strapped safely into a harness and seat, which is suspended from wheels that ride along a cable stretching anywhere from about 700 to 2800 feet long. You will soar safely along a series of these lines, the number and total distance of which depend on what tour you choose. You will fly over, above and through enormous eucalyptus forests and native koa and ohia trees. You will see amazing species of plants along the way and take in spectacular coastal and canyon views. And you’ll have a blast doing it. This ride is for children 10 and over with a weight requirement of 60 pounds. The maximun weight for the ride is 275 pounds, and pregnant women or individuals with prior injuries and/or serious medical conditions are not permitted. Riders must have closed-toe shoes and there is moderate to advanced physical activity involved that should be taken into consideration. For those who prefer to watch their family or friends from lower altitudes, like the ground, there is a walkalong adventure offered that will provide great “photo ops” as you meet up with your “ziplining” friends and family at the end of the line. Of all things to do in Maui, this one’s definitely for the adventurous sightseers of the group!

Lanai Snorkel Adventure

Snorkeling is great fun for the entire family and should be added to any vacation to-do list. You can experience a Deluxe Dolphin Snorkel Adventure off the shores of the island of Lanai, just a short ferry ride from Maui. This popular vacation pastime has attracted thousands of visitors every year. You will be amazed by the time you spend in the water, playing with dolphins, watching the whales and seeing the sea turtles. The beautiful and enormous coral reefs are home to hundreds of different species of fish and other sea creatures and, if you’re really lucky, you will see spinner dolphins performing a magnificent display of their jumping and dancing talents, all for your viewing pleasure. The sea turtles are actually quite friendly and don’t mind if you swim next to them for a while. You just might catch a glimpse of the most curious creature in the water, the octopus, which always have their eyes on you and have been proven to be rather intelligent creatures. They’ll know you’re an intelligent creature, too, having found out how close Lanai is to Maui and how many different kinds of fun every island offers.

Kahoma Ranch Tour

For those who would prefer to stay on dry land, there are countless activities to choose from.  One of the most fun and beautiful things to do in Maui is the Kahoma Ranch Tour, just above the town of Lahaina. You can enjoy a two-and-a-half-hour off-road adventure along private dirt roads and trails that are not accessible to the public. View the West Maui Mountains with gorgeous views of Lanai, Kaanapali, Lahaina and Molokai. If you’re willing to take a short hike, you can go up to the cliff lookout where you will find breathtaking views of the tropical surroundings and the sheer rock walls of Kahoma Valley. You can take a break and have a refreshing drink or snack at “The Garden” and enjoy the lovely native trees and vegetation, as well as the rich historical atmosphere of Lahaina. Tour departure times are 8:00 am, 11:00 am and 2:00pm, with return times of 10:30 am, 1:30 pm and 4:30 pm. The price for the tour includes transportation to and from the check-in location at the Kaanapali Fairway Shops, as well as water, fruits and granola bars. You might need to clean up after the ride, or avail yourself of provided “duds” (t-shirts and pants that are offered for a small fee). You’ll find that the Kahoma Ranch Tour is an ultimate off-road adventure, and is as educational as it is exciting and beautiful.
