Kaanapali Golf and Activities for the Whole Family
Kids Won't Have Time to be Bored in Kaanapali
Kaanapali Beach is the major resort destination on the west side of Maui, just three miles north of the town of Lahaina. From luxurious vacation rentals and condos to shopping and snorkeling, Kaanapali offers something for everyone.
The Kaanapali Golf Resort
Located in the heart of the Kaanapali Beach Resort and home to the Kaanapali Classic on the Senior PGA tour, the Kaanapali Golf Resort offers the perfect course for any golfer. Having recently undergone a $13 million renovation, the Kaanapali Golf Resort offers the Royal Kaanapali Course for golfers who consider themselves “good golfers” and the “old south” Kai Course for those playing with a handicap of 10 or more. Budget rounds of golf are available at Kaanapali, and lessons are available for kids 7 years old and up.
The Hula Grill
The Hula Grill is not only one of the best restaurants in Kaanapali, but one of the best on the island. Originally a plantation home built in the 1930s, it offers panoramic views, a barefoot bar and broad, open-air dining rooms made from beautiful, local koa wood. You can sample some of the best local Hawaiian dishes on the Chef’s Tasting Menu, as well as other delectable items created in the exclusive Kiawe wood-burning oven. Look for the "Keiki" (kids) menu for kid-size entrées, smoothies and virgin piña coladas
Kaanapali Beach
Kaanapali Beach is a fun vacation destination for the entire family. It is near phenomenal vacation rentals and condominiums, and is made up of a mile-long stretch of pristine white sand. Due to its location on the west side of the island, Kaanapali is much more lush and green than beaches on the south side. Spread out all over the beach are booths where you can make arrangements to try sailing, snorkeling, boat excursions, whale watching, kayaking and much more. Of course, no visit to Kaanapali Beach would be complete without signing up for a luau!
Horseback Riding
Many consider horseback riding one of the best activities on the island, next to golf. A horse can take you from the foothills to the lava fields of a volcano, or even up to and into a volcanic crater! You can also travel through rainforests to a beautiful waterfall. There are many horseback-riding ranches to choose from, so call around to find the perfect adventure for you and your family.
Parasailing
Only in Hawaii can someone as young as six years old go parasailing! Because it’s only available from mid-May through mid-December, parasailing is one of the most in-demand adventures on the island; plan accordingly. The newest of parasailing activities is a raft-like device that holds up to three people at the same time. This device is towed behind a speedboat, skimming along the water until finally going airborne for an unforgettable experience.
Ziplining
Enjoy the unbelievable views, steep cliffs and lush forests of Kannapali during an adrenaline-fueled race across a zip line. There are restrictions and age limits, so this action-packed adventure is best reserved for the adults of the group.
Shopping
If you are looking for that perfect little place to go shopping, the Fairway, in the center of Kaanapali, next to the golf course, is a resort-style retail center offering a multitude of boutique shops, along with restaurants and beauty services.
The Historical Tour
Kaanapali is steeped in legend and myth. Learn about its history through a guided or self-guided tour. Either way, you are bound to learn something new and have a great new conversation topic to share over dinner.
