When Christmas time rolls around, do you dream of enormous conifers covered in delicately crafted curios and dazzling lights? If so, OMA has an OMG experience for you. Every year in mid-November, the Orlando Museum of Art hosts the Orlando Festival of Trees, a spectacular seasonal celebration that transforms the museum into a winter wonderland and attracts over 20,000 visitors. Sponsored by the Council of 101, this long-running festival is an important fundraiser for the museum's year-round non-profit operations.
Event Highlights
Each year, Festival of Trees entertainment includes choirs, dance troupes, and more. But the real reason to attend is the overwhelming display of elaborately decorated trees which blanket the museum's galleries like a Yuletide exposition. The trees are contributed by a wide variety of local citizens, businesses, and civic groups, each of whom gives their tree a personalized spin.
Children will have an exciting and enjoyable time exploring the specially themed rooms such as the Gingerbread Village, the Christmas Village and Toyland Town. The latter features a play area, craft stations, and small gifts that kids can purchase for friends and family with pocket money -- not to mention the all-important visits with Santa (at scheduled times). Adults can have fun viewing and purchasing a variety of remarkable decor, including decorated wreaths and portable trees at the Deck the Halls shop, and outdoor displays in the Holiday Garden boutique.
2013 Schedule
This year, the 27th Annual Orlando Festival of Trees will be held November 15-24, 2013. Tickets will be available for sale online and at the door, costing $10 for adults and $6 for children.
Aside from the popular main attraction of ornamentation and decorated trees from traditional to designer - you can participate in other events and features including the Patrons Gala, scheduled to be held on the evening of November 14 pm, where you can enjoy several performing artists and delicious food along with a silent auction. Cost of admission is $125 with valet parking included.
Dates and prices for additional events, including a discount Seniors Day, Reindeer Romp children's pajama parties, and the annual Holiday Jazz Stroll (featuring exquisite food, wine, and live entertainment) should be announced closer to the event date.
Additional Information
You will also have the chance to participate in other events such as "Entertaining by Design" drawings, which provide you with the opportunity to win tabletops, gift certificates, jewelry, and other great items. Food and beverages from Panera will be available at the Festival Cafe and there will be plenty of merchandise for sale at gift shops and throughout the displays, so make sure to bring enough money to shop for everyone on your list.
