March 6- May 19, 2013
Disney, Orlando, FL
Every day, tens of thousands of tourists enter Epcot's turnstiles in search of its top E-Ticket attractions like Soarin', Mission: SPACE and Test Track. But a couple of times each year, special celebrations transform the park for a few months, making it a destination worth exploring even if you never set foot on a ride. For twenty springs, the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival has shown both adults and kids just what magic can be created using only flowers as inspiration.
The 2013 Festival
In 2013, the 20th Annual Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival will be held from March 6 through May 19. The event is sponsored by HGTV and features free daily seminars with experts from HGTV and Epcot, who provide a range of innovative gardening ideas that you can utilize in your own yard. Designer presentations are meant for adults and can help you plan everything from planting your first garden to increasing the curb appeal of your home.
The big news for 2013 is the addition of a dozen Garden Marketplaces around the World Showcase lagoon. Visitors to the fall's popular International Food and Wine Festival will recognize these kiosks, which sell smaller-sized portions of foods, wines, and beers from across the world. Japanese chirashi, French ratatouille, and Moroccon kabobs are all represented. For the first time ever, you can even get the Magic Kingdom's famous Dole Whip pineapple dessert topped with spiced rum!
This year over 100 Disney character topiaries have been created utilizing the beautiful, blooming flowers of spring. Beyond these characters, there are also many other components of the festival. An Oz-themed playground will keep the kids occupied, while a tent full of colorful butterflies will enchant everyone. In addition, this festival also includes a "Flower Power" concert series starring classic rock artists.
Attending the Festival
All festival activities (excluding food, drink, and the Behind the Seeds tour) are included with regular Epcot admission. Some visitors plan trips exclusively to Epcot, while others work the festival into a larger family Disney trip. Prices vary greatly depending on whether you have purchased a multi-park ticket, secured a family discount, or booked in advance online. One sure way to pay the most money is to simply show up at the theme park and purchase a ticket. Buying theme park tickets in advance will just about always save you on admission prices.
What to Expect
If you're thinking about attending the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival you might be wondering what to expect. This annual festival takes place both indoors and outdoors and is an all day affair. In 2013, the festival will last through May 19. A number of Disney-Pixar characters have been featured in the topiaries, including kids' favorites like Mike and Sully from Monsters University, and Mater and Lightning McQueen from Cars.
Another festival highlight that both kids and adults will love is the Flower Power concert series. These concerts take place every weekend at the America Gardens Theater and showcase the music of the 1960s and 1970s. The Village People, Herman's Hermits, and Starship are among the 20th-century hit-makers scheduled to appear.
For Adults and Kids
Some festivals in Disney World are designed just for kids, but Epcot does an exceptional job of appealing to adults too. In both this festival and the International Food & Wine Festival, adults will be just as happy as their kids to be spending vacation time in Disney World. While kids will be enjoying their favorite characters created with flowers, adults can be learning tips about how to improve their gardens from gardening experts at the designer presentations. These events will provide practical information that you can put to use in your garden this season.
If you're planning a trip to Orlando that all members of the family will enjoy, a vacation rental is essential. With a rental, everyone will have his or her own space to relax, setting the stage for a peaceful trip. Many Orlando rentals have beautiful outdoor swimming pools, private outdoor space, hot tubs, and barbecues. However you envision spending your trip to Orlando, a Disney area vacation rental can help make that come true.
