Held annually in mid-September at the Steamboat Ski & Resort in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, this unique three-day celebration blends the best cultural elements of the German fall festival Oktoberfest and those of the American West.
The OktoberWest weekend is packed full of fun activities for the whole family, Western cuisine, and a selection of local Rocky Mountain beers. After all, it can’t be an Oktoberfest without an ample supply of suds!
The OktoberWest Festival Weekend
There is no charge for admission to OktoberWest, though participation in some events requires payment of a registration or entrance fee.A “Pedaling Posse Parade” kicks off the weekend on Friday evening. Be a part of this bike parade, cruising through the historic downtown area of Steamboat Springs and working up your appetite. Then taste some local brews and Steamboat Springs cuisine at Little Toots Park during an event called “Suds & Grub” that shifts the weekend celebration into high gear.
The Steamboat Ski & Resort is the base of Saturday’s activities. Free concerts, mechanical bull rides, an old-time pie-eating contest and a lamb cook-off are but a few of the activities for the whole family to enjoy. Adults will want to stop by the beer garden to taste a selection of regional beers.
Events wind down on Sunday but not without some additional hoopla. More fantastic food and a gondola ride should be on your agenda. The family fun area at the Coca-Cola Adventure Zone is free of charge for everyone and features games and kids’ activities. Adults can take a break at the bloody mary bar for a taste of recipes unique to Steamboat.
