Frisco, Colorado is along the shoreline of Lake Dillon, at the bottom of the Ten Mile Range. Frisco is considered to be one of the nicest winter lodging spots in Colorado, and with it's population of only two and a half thousand, it is very personable and cozy. Frisco was founded in 1879 as a mining town and still retains its classic “wild-west” style buildings as well as a large museum.
The crisp view of the snow-covered mountains makes a perfect backdrop for your vacation in Frisco. There are plenty of winter activities to do and the 2,400 acres of surrounding snowy terrain offer an unforgettable adventure through the mountains. If you like skiing, snow boarding, snow fishing, snowmobiling, tubing or even ice skating – Frisco is your piece of paradise.
Ski Resorts All Around
Frisco is close to several world-class Colorado ski resorts: Copper Mountain, Keystone, Breckenridge and Arapahoe Basin.
- Copper Mountain is only seven miles away from Frisco and is easy to reach by car or bus. Copper has 21 ski lifts and 134 trails to explore.
- Keystone covers three mountains and offers skiing for all skill levels, with it's longest trail being 3.5 miles long.
- Breckenridge is the most popular ski resort in North America, with over 1.6 millions ski enthusiasts visiting each year. It is home to the highest lift in North America at almost 13,000 feet of elevation.
- Arapahoe Basin is known for staying open until June, when other ski resorts close in May. Known as “A-Basin,” this resort is nestled high in the White River National Forest – which makes for some beautiful scenery.
- Locally, check out the tubing hill and terrain park at Frisco Adventure Park for low key snow fun accessed by a magic carpet lift. The park is open year-round, offering walking and biking trails.
Historic Places to Explore
If you want to learn more about Frisco and the surrounding area, make sure to visit the Frisco Historic Park and Museum. Learn about the Ude Indians who first traveled to the area, and visit the old schoolhouse for a comparison of the museum to the original town of Frisco. Some buildings had to be re-built, but the museum park includes almost a dozen original buildings, including beautiful historic hotels, log homes, saloons, a cattle ranch and the original log chapel and jail from the early 1800s. Walk through tours are available.
