Every year the beautiful city of Laguna Beach holds the Festival of Arts, its sublime summer celebration of fine art that includes the tremendously popular Pageant of the Masters. For nearly eighty years, the community of Laguna Beach has hosted this incredible event in which live performers, accompanied by orchestral music, bring artwork to life.
Pageant of the Masters
Every year, a theme is selected for the pageant, and the ninety-minute show maintains that central focus throughout. The pageant itself recreates works of art from classic and contemporary masters, positioning real people to depict the events and images captured in the masters’ original works.
The pageant is held at an outdoor amphitheater and features an original, orchestral music score, as well as professional narration. Through painstaking set construction, intricate costume design and expert lighting techniques, the staff and volunteers of the pageant put on a one-of-a-kind show that is a feast for the senses.
The Festival of Arts
The Pageant of the Masters is but one of the events, which attracts visitors from around the globe to the annual Laguna Beach Festival of Arts. The festival is California’s inaugural and longest-running, open-air arts festival and includes art exhibitions, special events, art workshops, and live entertainment.
Exhibits include works in a wide range of media, including everything from woodcrafts and ceramics to photography and sculpture. Each year, the work of more than 140 Orange County artists is on display at the festival, as well as the work local students at the Junior Art Exhibit.
Daily events include guided educational tours, live musical performances, demonstrations by artists and craftsmen, and various arts and crafts workshops, where participants can try their hands at papermaking, woodcarving, and other artistic pursuits.
Some would argue that there is no more beautiful part of the California coastline than the region around Laguna Beach and, indeed, many who visit the area are there for the dramatic scenery and perfect ocean views. The seaside community, where the land quickly rises from the shoreline into the San Joaquin Hills, offers many choices of Laguna Beach vacation rental homes, including beachside bungalows, condos in the city, canyon estates. Many visitors find these accommodations preferable to hotel rooms because of the amenities available, such as kitchens and extra of space to relax.
