Things To Do in Squaw Valley

family vacation to squaw valley

Many people chose the winter season to go on a family trip. For people that reside in the northern states, it’s a chance to get away from the cold for a week or two. However, if you’re not really interested in getting away from the cold to have the best vacation ever, you may consider traveling to Squaw Valley, California. This town is famous for its many activities including skiing, snowboarding, rock climbing and spas.

All-Year Destination

Squaw Valley, California is great for winter vacations when you’re not looking for a tropical beach. Instead, you can tour the Olympic Museum to learn about the 1960 Olympics that took place in Squaw Valley, California. You can take a ride on the cable car, towering 2,000 feet above the scenery. There are activities for the whole family, including special snow activities arranged for children from ages three to 12 and a spa heated to 102 degrees for those that don’t enjoy the cold.

Winter Sports

Most vacationers come to Squaw Valley for fun on the slopes. In addition to skiing, ice skating is available daily at the top of Squaw Valley’s upper mountain. Not only will you have a great time ice skating, but you will get a great view of the Squaw Valley Meadow, the Sierra Nevada, and Lake Tahoe. Ice hockey equipment is also available for rental.

If you aren’t into ice skating, you may want to try skiing or snow tubing. You must be four years old to ride on the snow tubes, which is young enough that practically the whole family can tube together in most situations. Their hill features two lanes, creating a different feel depending on the type of hill you want to ride down.

Get Your Adrenaline Pumping

Perhaps you have someone in the family that isn’t interested in the snow at all. Don’t worry; there are activities for this person as well. Squaw Valley has an indoor 30 feet rock climbing wall, available for all ages. You'll get an adrenaline rush when you try out the headwall sky jump, where you can fly 25 feet into the air while jumping on a trampoline with bungees attached to you.

If these activities aren’t enough, you can indulge in the variety of restaurants Squaw Valley has to offer. Bars and cafes scatter the town, where you can satisfy any craving including pizza, burritos, breakfast food, French cuisine, barbecues, smoothies, bagels, sandwiches, and plenty more.

The Perfect Vacation
