Best Sightseeing Vacations

Top Sights to See

Sometimes you just want to see the world and see for yourself all the things you've heard about or read in books: the Eiffel Tower, the Great Wall of China, the Parthenon. When you have an itch to see the world, you need to plan one of the best sightseeing vacations that you can think of. The best way to plan this type of vacation is by thinking of a location that has the most places to see in one location. Here are some ideas.

Washington D.C.

One of the greatest locations in the U.S. for you to visit is Washington D.C. Every American should visit this location at least once in his or her lifetime. One of the first places you should check out is the Smithsonian , where you'll find 19 museums and the National Zoological Park . The best part is it's all free! Other attractions include the Lincoln Memorial , Library of Congress , Washington Monument , and the White House . Many of the activities and attractions are free including some Saturday morning performances at the National Theatre .

New York City

Another major sightseeing city is New York City, where you can visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island , walk down Broadway , go to the top of the Empire State Building , and stand in the middle of Times Square . There's so much to see and do in New York, it will be hard to choose a focus. For foodies, major locations to visit are restaurants by top chefs including Eleven Madison Park , Gramercy Tavern , and Corton . For others, the main attractions with be 30 Rock (i.e. Rockefeller Center ) and the Met (i.e. the Metropolitan Opera House ). For museum buffs, there's the Museum of Modern Art , the Museum of Natural History , and the Guggenheim . Just head down Museum Mile on Fifth Avenue to find more museums. With so many places to visit, New York is definitely one of the best sightseeing vacations, hands down.

London, United Kingdom

Another city that many travelers love to visit is London. There are many famous locations including Buckingham Palace where you can see the changing of the guards, Big Ben , and the Tower of London . Many stop by the British Museum where you can see priceless relics and ancient artifacts. Head to the Churchill War Rooms and visit Shakespeare's Globe Theatre . There are many more sites to see in this famous city.

Paris, France

It's not possible to write about the best sightseeing vacations and not include Paris. This iconic city is known for being the center of fashion and food and people from all over the world travel here to experience the allure of this city. For lovers of art, you won't want to miss the Louvre or M usee de l'Orangerie . Of course, the Eiffel Tower is a definite must along with Notre Dame Cathedral . For those who love French cuisine, there are many cooking classes offered that will teach you the basics of French food. If you want to see something spooky, head to the The Catacombs , underground tunnels where hundreds of Parisians were buried.

After a long day of sightseeing, nothing is better than relaxing in your own home, whether an upscale condo in Manhattan, a quaint apartment in Paris, or a luxury flat in London. Hotel rooms are small and stuffy, and you'll be put with all the other tourists. Vacation rentals allow you to really get to know the city by placing with residents, making you feel like a part of the city.
