Visit Belo Horizonte
Belo Horizonte, Portuguese for "beautiful horizon", is the capital city of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, and one of the host cities for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Belo Horizonte was named for the breathtaking views of the nearby mountains. It's a great place to enjoy cultural attractions and restaurants (after watching a football match.) The city, also famously known as Beaga (the sounds of the letters B and H in Portuguese,) is the sixth most populous city in Brazil.
Enjoying the World Cup Matches
Belo Horizonte's most historic football venue is Estadio Mineirao, and it has undergone a total overhaul in order to host six matches during the 2014 FIFA World Cup, including one of the semi-finals. Improvements were made to increase accessibility and include sustainable building practices. Estadio Mineirao can be found in the Pampulha neighbourhood.
