Carl Shepherd, Co-founder and Chief Strategy and Development Officer


Shepherd co-founded HomeAway and as chief development officer is now responsible for mergers, acquisitions and developing key partnerships.

From 1997-2003, Shepherd was the chief operating officer of Hoover’s Online. Under his management, the business grew from a small book publisher to a leading source of business information online, culminating in an IPO in 1999. Following the Internet downturn, Shepherd helped architect the company's sale to Dun & Bradstreet in March 2003.

He began his career as a consultant in the advertising industry, working for what is now Accenture. He also served as chief financial officer of Mediatex, Inc. (publisher of Texas Monthly) and Hanley-Wood, Inc. Shepherd holds a Bachelor of Arts in business administration from Texas Christian University and a master's degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
