Beaches for Guests of Poipu Condo Rentals

On the sunny South Shore of Kauai, visitors who stay in Poipu condo rentals will find gorgeous beaches and plenty of opportunities for water sports such as swimming, surfing, boogie boarding, body surfing, snorkeling, and windsurfing. Some of the top Poipu, Hawaii surfing spots include Poipu Beach, Shipwreck Beach, Salt Pond, Lawai Beach, and Davidsons at Kekaha.

Poipu Beach Park, the most popular of the Poipu beaches on Kauai, is fronted by several resorts including the Marriott and the Kiahuna condominiums. This gently sloping, family-friendly beach is a series of golden sand crescents where guests of Poipu Beach Hawaii rentals will find safe swimming and excellent snorkeling as well as boogie boarding, and surfing. The park also boasts a natural wading pool that's perfect for young children. Sunny Poipu Beach has been named America's #1 Beach by Dr. Steve Leatherman (aka Dr. Beach). Amenities include lifeguards, outdoor showers, restrooms, barbecue grills, and shaded picnic areas.

A Poipu Beach condo rental is also convenient to Shipwreck Beach (also known as Keoniloa Beach), a long stretch of golden sand on the eastern end of the Poipu area. During most of the year, the surf here is high, suitable only for advanced surfers. Shipwreck Beach is great for sunbathing or walking along the scenic cliff top trail that goes east for a couple of miles. Public access to the Shipwreck Beach is between the Hyatt hotel and the Poipu Bay Golf Course.

Just a few miles east of Poipu Kauai vacation rentals, the beaches of Mahaulepu are situated on a wild stretch of undeveloped coastline. While the water here is usually too dangerous for swimming, this scenic spot is perfect for exploring. Guests of vacation rentals in Poipu Kauai can stroll along the sandy beaches or climb the rocky cliffs for fabulous coastal views. The area between Gillin's Beach and Kawailoa Bay is popular with windsurfers. To reach Mahaulepu, take Poipu Road east past the Poipu Bay Golf Course (the road will change from pavement to dirt). Turn right when the road dead-ends and drive until you see the security shack with posted opening hours. There are no visitor facilities here.

Baby Beach, situated to the west of Poipu Beach, is a protected cove that offers safe swimming. To reach Baby Beach, take Spouting Horn Road to Hoone Road. A little farther west on Spouting Horn Road is Lawai Beach, which offers great snorkeling.

On the west side of Kauai, crescent-shaped Salt Pond Beach Park offers safe swimming most of the year and tide pools to explore. A small, rock-lined lagoon forms an excellent children's swimming area.

Farther west, past Waimea and the small town of Kekaha, is Kekaha Beach. The firm beach here is great for walking, jogging, or sports. The surf is sometimes ideal for surfing and body boarding, but beware of high surf and rip currents.
