Popular outdoor venues for Outer Banks weddings include Jockey's Ridge State Park, the Whalehead Club on Currituck Sound, the Currituck Beach Lighthouse, and the Elizabethan Gardens on Roanoke Island. Wedding ceremonies can also be held at the scenic Ocracoke, Brodie Island, and Cape Hatteras lighthouses, but the National Park Service does not permit any chairs, decorations, or other wedding equipment. A North Carolina marriage license is required for Outer Banks weddings and can be obtained from any County Register of Deeds in North Carolina. The bride and groom must be present to apply for the license, must be at least 18 years, and must provide a photo ID, a social security card, and any applicable divorce decrees. The license fee is $50 and the license is valid for 60 days. North Carolina does not require health exams, blood tests, or waiting periods for marriage licenses.

For weddings in the Corolla area, contact the Currituck County Register of Deeds at 252-232-3297. For weddings in Ocracoke, call the Hyde County Register of Deeds at 252-926-3011.
