Gold Beach, Oregon is a vacation spot for those who appreciate a good time away from the hustle and bustle of everyday living. No shopping malls. No theme parks. South of Gold Beach, the Chetco River runs through Brookings, and offers more fishing and rafting opportunities. Brookings is also well known for its botanical offerings. Myrtlewood trees, which only grow in northern California and southern Oregon, can be seen at the Alfred A. Loeb State Park. The Brookings area is also home to the most northern range of giant redwood trees. There isn't a more scenic drive on the Oregon coast than on the stretch of highway 101 that connects Gold Beach to Brookings. The remote coastline is dotted with offshore islands, natural rock formations, caves, and beaches. Take your time and your camera.

For a great day-trip away from the coast, head inland to Ashland. With upscale restaurants, jazz clubs, and plenty of day spas, Ashland is southern Oregon's cosmopolitan center. Perhaps the best known attraction in Ashland is the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Each year, over 300,000 people flood Ashland in search of all things Bard-like. This internationally acclaimed facility has three theaters dedicated to putting on works by Shakespeare, other classics, and the works of new playwrights. Ashland prides itself on its arts community. You can see dance and opera, visit over 100 art galleries and many exciting museums during your Ashland excursion.

Gold Beach is the perfect spot for basing your southern Oregon coastal vacation. One of the favorite activities in Gold Beach is a hair raising Jet Boat Ride on the Rogue River. Knowledgeable guides take visitors on scenic trips of 60, 80, or 100 miles down the river looking for local wildlife and thrilling them with the need for speed! How about renting a charter boat for your own crabbing trip? You set the traps and return to bring in your catch. Guides will also cook them for you if you so choose. Hop in your car and head south to Crescent City (California) for one of the most scenic drives found anywhere. On one side is the ocean framed by high cliffs, and on the other is a fern gully and tree canopy over the road. Gold Beach is a real must-see for anyone who wants a vacation away from it all in the arms of the Pacific Ocean.
