A marriage license is required for Fort Walton Beach weddings and can be obtained from any Florida County Clerk's office. The bride and groom must be at least 18 years of age and appear in person to apply for the license. There is a three-day waiting period for issuance of a marriage license to Florida residents, unless they can provide proof of completing an approved four-hour marriage counseling session. There is no waiting period for out-of-state residents. The marriage license is valid for 60 days and may be used anywhere in Florida.

In Okaloosa County, licenses are available from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Clerk of Circuit Court's Office in the Okaloosa County Courthouse (101 E. James Lee Boulevard, Room 210, in Crestview) or at the Okaloosa County Courthouse Annex (1250 N. Eglin Parkway, in Shalimar). Fort Walton wedding ceremonies may be performed by ministers, judges, Clerks of the Circuit Court, and notary publics.
